Mid July. The perfect season for pumpkin beer right?

I feel like it gets earlier every year. I picked up a Jolly Pumpkin pumpkin Ale last week. Felt pretty odd. Dropped the thermostat down a few degrees.

Great. Now I feel like my grandparents complaining about how early holiday decorations get put out each year.

Alexanders still has their pumpkin beers from last year if you need an aged one

They still have some of last year's pumking for sale at Alexander's.

Definite over-saturation of the pumpkin beer market. We need to enact our own American Reinheitsgebot, where pumpkin beers can not be released any earlier than october 1.

No, September, IMO.

Pumpkin is a viable style until December when your dedicated winter beers take over. Pumpkins are one of my absolute favorite styles. Three months with Pumpkin ales >>>>>> 2 months.

I think pumpkin beers are just about the worst things ever, so any number of months is too much imo.

And to think I used to think you were cool

Jokes aside, it's a polarizing style for sure.

The guys at CCB told me that securing canned pumpkin gets more expensive and tougher as Fall approaches. With every brewery now wanting to make a pumpkin brew and every grannie making a pie you want to be on the leading edge when buying. Good Gourd hit in August last year...

so secure it in the summer, then brew/release in the fall

it's not like canned pumpkin is going to go bad between July and September

They could do this but they argue that since everyone is dropping their pumpkin brews ealier and ealier that they'd be sacrificing their own sales by entering the market late. Run-on sentence, sorry..

Made a caramel pumpkin cheesecake last year for thanksgiving. Thing was delicious.

Also I love pumpkin beers.

They have to brew it as soon as they receive canned pumpkin?

I've got a crap load of Pumpkinator left over (well technically I guess it is Dannunzio's since I said I'd trade it to him) and I'm sure that I will end up getting more as gifts this year.

I'm fine with one 4-pack of DFH Punkin.

Did you like that one? It's been years since I've had it. I remember it being thin on the mouth and very, very tart. It tasted more of a carbonated sour than other traditional pumpkin beers.

I get that argument, but it seems like they've crossed the line. Are people really going to want to buy spiced pumpkin beers in July? I guess we'll see. Seems like they'd end up being shelf turds, but then again, I'm not in the industry, so I don't know what the frick I'm talking about.

I get this from a business standpoint. But for me personally I'd rather wait for a good pumpkin beer rather than purchase something crappy just because it's one of the first ones released. In fricking July as it were.

I like pumpkin beers but only if they're really well done. I've had more shitty ones than good ones that's for sure.

I'll grab a Good Gourd and a Pumpkinator I'm sure if I can and hang on to them until the weather turns cold.

And while we're on the subject don't sleep on Old Rail's pumpkin beer when they release it this fall. It was my favorite pumpkin beer I had all last season.

Did not care for it. At all. It was definitely strange tasting.
