All this has happened before. All this will happen again.

I just watched it too. I wrote my own ending. Wanna know what it is?
Spoilers!
Okay, so she goes through the whole ordeal and crash lands on Earth...finally. She's on the beach, she's happy to be on Earth and safe. She struggles to her feet and begins to walk. The camera pans out from above (space shot). The viewer sees the truth. Turns out she landed on a tiny remote island in the middle of nowhere. The best the viewer can tell...she's completely alone. This raises the question: would it have been better had she just died up in space? On this island she is basically facing the same fate: she's alone and has to fend for herself and no one knows where she is. Would have made for a better ending imho.
When she crashed on that island, I thought that's what was going to happen. Just saying. I didn't write it...but that's my thought.

The story . . . there was a story?
Gotta watch it in 3D (which I have at home) to really dig this movie a lot.

As she was coming in, you can hear through the static that they had her on radar.

Yeah I thought this was pretty damn obvious.

Can we count on this being a thread every two weeks for the foreseeable future where pro-Gravity and anti-Gravity people just get in a brawl?

That would conflict with the themes though. It's very clear what Cuaron means with the themes, and it's life learning to adapt, evolve, and survive. Even if it was an abandoned island, it's not as if someone wouldn't come investigate it, so she's saved regardless.

Let's compare it to Avatar. That's a novel idea.

Much like many other great 85-95 minute movies, it was lean and efficient. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. How do you add more to the story? Give the characters more of backstory? That would have, dare I say, taken away from the gravity of the situation.

Pretty much this.

It was just the right length IMO.

Here's a better alternate ending: she lands on earth and learns in her absence that apes have evolved and enslaved humanity.

A better story would have had her die and let the only good part of the movie - Matt - survive. How you gonna let a depressed bitch get into space anyways?
