That sure is a long stick he is holding. 4' at best.

I love the "i killed a bigger one in high school" quote. Dropped believability down by 99%.

I am having trouble taking this as factual as well. If I knew that snake was close to that big that b!tch woulda came with me for sure and been measured.
Just don't believe it...JS

If the girth was really scary, he would need a bigger stick that than to hold it up.

It's all about the camera perspective.

He's got quite the hoist action going with both arms though.

My favorite part of the story

quote:

But according to Grant, the snake he killed on Saturday wasn’t even close to one he killed while in high school

I don't know why these stories even show up any more. The snake on a stick thing is so overplayed it not even worth reading the stories anymore. They're always full of shite.

Is there a picture? I'm not getting a photo with the article. I've caught hundreds of snakes in my life, and two of my biggest pet peeves are people calling every water snake a Cottonmouth and people exaggerating snake (or alligator) lengths. But I ran into a Cottonmouth while snake hunting off Chef Menteur Highway in N.O. east that I would put over the 5 ft. mark. It's one time I got a little worried about a snake because he was so aggressive. There were 4 of us walking on a 2 ft. wide pipe that ran up the middle of a small canal (or large ditch), so there was no way to just move away quickly without going swimming. He was not the typical short, stout Cottonmouth. I wouldn't call it slender, but the body dimensions were more like what you would find on a largerat snake. He was perched on a fallen branch, and he actually went into the water and make a quick aggressive move toward us, but stopped short of us. I've NEVER seen a snake do that - and I've spent my life chasing after snakes that head anywhere BUT in your direction when you approach them. I've got a picture of him somewhere. But he was easily a foot longer than any other Cottonmouth I've ever seen.

Alright, found a picture - this is from over 20 years ago. You can't see the full body in the picture, and he was about 10 feet away when the picture was taken, but it was a big mofo. You can see that where his body trails off into the water, he's really not tapering down much yet. And that fricker was staring us down big time.

Here's a bonus pic of one I caught that same day. This little guy looks thick in the picture, but is barely 2 1/2 feet long.
