Looks like I'll be making the move in the next two months. I'll be working out of two offices. One in west Houston and one on the North side. I'll have a real estate agent, but wanted to start looking around online. I'm vaguely familiar with the layout of Houston. Where should I start looking? Want to be as close to the city as possible, but not be in a condo or anything like that. Have to stay under 300k as well. I'm finding a lot, but it's all way out there. I just don't know what's the best suburbs to be looking at.

You won't find much in the city for 300k and the north side is on fire right now.

Maybe try Katy

You won't want to live in anything you could buy for under 300k inside the loop. You might want to just rent for a year.

Katy is on fire too. There will be slim pickings in Katy under 300, but there are some options. Better move fast on anything you want though. Good, affordable houses are only on the market for a couple of days.

This.

You have no clue.

And we know nothing about you. You may be young and not ready for the burbs out here.

And not wanting a condo takes you totally out of the mix for anything near downtown.

Meh, there are some new developments going up near 99 north of I-10 that you can get under 300. Good access to the highways and eventually 99 will take you over to the north side without having to go thru Houston.

Just beware looking on the north/northeast side of Katy. It is starting to decline a bit.

Don't need to be inside the loop. Both offices are outside the loop. Have a kid due in September and a lab. I'm all for the burbs. Just want to stay as close as possible. The kid throws us the curveball. We have to buy off my salary alone, since she wont be working right away. I may end up renting for 6 months until she finds a job and make a decision off of that. It's just nice to buy right away because my company pays for everything (movers real estate agents, closing costs, etc.)
