Some background - a friend of mine (not a charter captain) got me interested in fishing in SE LA before I moved to Katy. My last fishing trip in LA was October, '13 out of Delacroix. Not the best day but we still put 69 specs, 2 reds, and 2 drum in the box among four of us in about 6-7 hours.

So when given a chance to fill-in for another employee at an oil-n-gas all expense paid fishing event in Matagorda I jumped at the opportunity. And to be sure it was a lot of fun. Just smelling some salt water was nice.

But at the end of the day my boat put seven fish in the box - four reds and 3 sheepshead. Four of us fished our tails off from 6AM until about 1PM (had to leave for the weigh-in). We fished the banks of the Colorado River using live shrimp as our guide told us. Cast toward the bank, pop-it, etc.

So for the more experienced at fishing and charter boats:
- Was 7 fish a good day? bad day?
- Is the fishing just that much better in LA than Matagorda?
- Was our guide a dud?

Fishing is much better in louisiana but there are good trips to be had in texas. Bigger trout in texas for sure but nof the shear numbers in louisiana. Also where as in louisiana most places along the coast are decent year round, only certain areas of texas are good at any given time.

You had a really good day in Delacroix and LA people are spoiled when it comes to fishing.

Went on a guided trip out of Florida a couple years ago and out of orange beach about a year ago. There's NO comparison to what we have in south LA for coastal fishing.

the coast of LA is a world class fishing destination that we all take for granted...I don't know of anywhere else along the coast that provides fishing that is nearly as good...

We were in the Co. River so wind wasn't an issue. I take it our guide was ok just not a lot to work with in the way of fish.

I have more love for fishing than knowledge so no claims for greatness here. But the fellow who lets me tag along has always done better whether in the Rigolets, Hopedale, or Delacroix than yesterday in Matagorda.
