Country Club republicans unite. It's time to take the party back from these social conservative "Christians" who have held the party hostage for the last 20 years or so. These people are a walking contradiction. They claim to be for smaller government but want to use the government to legislate their brand of morality. They're trigger happy and would get us in a dozen wars if possible and have zero understanding of new era global politics, yet they bitch about the deficit. News flash: China is not the enemy.

We need a third party for these people. A social party where they can win a few confessional seats in deep deep Red districts.

If we returned to the party of Eisenhower, lower taxes, truly smaller and less intrusive government, fostering peace through trade and reasonable diplomacy with the world, letting the world want to BE like us like we did we would win so many more educated and higher earning independents who have voted democrat in the last few cycles because of the Todd Akins and Rick Santoroums of the world.

You guys can afford to purge your members as much as a man with a noose around his neck can afford to give up the chair he's standing on.

SpidermanTUba manages to prove the broken clock principle.

Yes, because he established a clear argument and then ably supported it with facts and evidence. Yes, he does get it.

Show your work or I'm going to assume you're one of those we need to get rid of.

The party used to be strong in New England and suburban NY/NJ after Chris Shays got kicked out it's basically non existent up there.

Remember when republicans loved immigrants that came to America and worked hard? Now we're the party of anti immigration and we seem to be afraid of new people coming here.

Wrong. You made the assertion that Christians are the ill of the Republican Party.

Don't just say it.

Prove. It.

Sure the GOP can't survive without the social conservatives and trigger happy people for the very near foreseeable future but long term, his stance makes perfect sense.

The demographics and trends are changing away from what the GOP could reliably win elections on like in 2004. Young People are becoming less and less religious and more scientifically minded and completely disagree with their view of morality. After 12+ years of war in the Mideast, we are shifting away from throwing caution in the wind foreign policy and moving towards actually thinking about wht we're getting into.

The writing is on the wall for the GOP.

My mother is one of those social conservative "Christians", and even she thinks the party needs to move to a more libertarian position.

I'm episcopalian and our church is not the problem. Conservative Christians who want the country to be governed by their interpretation of the bible (Old Testament) are he problem. And there are a ton of you.

I have no problem with immigration, I have a problem with the welfare state that gives an incentive to illegal immigrants to come here. Drastically reduce or eliminate welfare and the flood of illegal immigration will stop.

Until then, it's not out of bounds for conservatives to be opposed to amnesty or immigration reform in sheep's clothing.

immigrants don't come here because of the freakin welfare state ... get out a little before commenting on immigrants ... we need to control the border, stop illegals, etc, but they do not come here for the free welfare benefits ... they don't get them and probably wouldn't want them even if they could ... i've lived in houston 20 years and have seen one immigrant ... literally, ONE PERSON ... begging for something other than work ... corporations get far more "welfare" benefits than the illegals that come here ...

I don't think he's talking about all Republican Christians. He talking about the ones that want to impose their religion on others.

Corporations probably employ one or two more people than illegal immigrants do, wouldn't you think?

so corporate welfare is ok cause they employ folks? ...

gotcha ... what a principled conservative you are ...

sound bites ... that's what most anti-immigration stuff is ... nothing but typical sound-bite angst that blames a democrat ... pubs want to castigate the dems and blame obama ... and only obama ... for illegal immigrants, when their boy bushie and ronnie did absolutely nothing about illegal immigration ... wait, actually, ronnie gave em amnesty ... my bad ...
