Mainieri has never dodged the challenges and pressure that come with coaching at LSU, and those are elements that aren't daunting to his new hitting coach in the slightest.

"That part doesn't scare me at all," Cannizaro said. "I spent 12 of the last 14 years with an organization that is demanding and has higher expectations than anybody in Major League Baseball, and I look at LSU as the New York Yankees of college baseball.

Yeah, it's nice to hear another coach wishing he had our guy. Makes me that much more confident that we made a good move.

At first blush, I'm excited about the new guy. How about you, Kim?

Didn't he play at Tulane? That NYY comment won't go over well. But then again, who cares.

Yep. Pretty good player, too.

Meh. He's making an analogy using teams he's familiar with and complementing them both. I hate the Yankees, but it's a solid comment.

Thanks for the link, Russian

Yes, but I think he meant not going over well with Tulane fans.

Time will tell if this was a good hire. Smoke looked good on paper too. Needless to say I'm not sold on him but he deserves a look. Lets hope for the best though. I can't imagine our hitting not improving.

More like the New York Yankees are the LSU of Major League Baseball.

To me, the most important part of being a hitting coach is talking to your players about not just looking to hit the ball, but plate discipline, strike zone discipline....
