FOX Sports analyst and former Vice President of Officiating Mike Pereira said the biggest points of emphasis in the NFL's officiating clinic were illegal contact and defensive holding. "Last time the NFL had this as a major emphasis was 2004," Pereira continued, "and the number of illegal contact fouls went from 79 to 191." What this may look like in practice is unknown, but it appears the league is cracking down on the physical cornerback play many of the best defenses in the league are built on. This is yet another move which should increase passing and offensive success throughout the league.

Saint fans, rejoice!

Jimmy Graham can't get beat down and become non-existent in games where defenses actually play football.

Why do you care about trolling Saints fans?

Doesn't USC, LSU, Florida and OU fans reminders get your sad eyes watery enough?

This should be known as the Seahawks rule.

Btw, officials were shown many plays regarding illegal contact and defensive holding. How many Seahawk plays???. None.

Well that's just dumb. Could have saved themselves a lot of work.

RIP Sherman, Revis, Talib, etc.

FIFY All good corners seek to get an "advantage" by pulling, grabbing & holding. It isn't just a Richard Sherman thing.

Like the SF playoff game where he had 100+ yards and 2 touchdowns

The NFL just wants to have 49-42 games become the norm. That's how it will be in 10-15 years.

This. Scores like that means plenty of stats & happy fantasy football owners. This is more about pleasing & bringing in the casual football "fan". To hell with the knowledgeable diehard fans who have an appreciation for good defense.

If this logic made any sense, then the AFL and CFL would be competitive leagues with the NFL.

There's a point where scoring at will becomes extremely dull.

Out of the three, which is the more established league with more tradition & the bigger fanbase? The NFL already has the largest fanbase of all major American sports but the league didn't grow the size it is now without searching for ways to bring in even more fans. Would you argue that FF DOESN'T bring in the casual fan who only watches because he or she is in a league at their job? No one that I know plays FF involving the AFL or CFL but a ton play NFL FF.

Already. There's nothing wrong with defensive slug fest occasionally.

What is this? I don't even...

I'm saying if all it takes to bring in casual fans is to score a billion points, then the AFL and CFL would be competitive
