I mean illegal private games?? Be careful. Man in our town was killed during a robbery of a poker game a couple days ago. He was a local biz owner...rumors locally are that it was a $50k buy in. That part isn't being reported yet.

I play some small blind stuff. Never for money though. Always bullets and cocaine.

I am aware of the existence of some games like this, though I don't think they're 50k-level. I don't know any details, nor do I want to. I'll stick to my little $20 buy-in game.

I can't imagine playing in a game like that. Why would you carry around that kind of money in a private game? You have to think shite like this would happen.

Apparently 14 or more players or at least people present. Guy had a business a wife and 2 yund kids. Another guy was shot as well. It's not his fault he got killed but you have to believe it's incredibly risky being somewhere with that much cash

Of course it's not his fault, but like you said...that's the risk you take when there's that much money lying around like that in a non secure illegal poker setup.

I would be way too scared to be at a game with that much cash.

I have no idea what kind of "security" they had. I would think the robbery had to be an inside job by one of the players or close associates

Same thing (robbery, not a murder) happened to a big cash game in Baton Rouge back in the early 90's at a big house on Highland Road. The robbers were caught a couple of days later. Apparently the people robbed were a Who's Who of big shot business owners, lawyers, politicos, etc. The Sheriff's Detectives basically dropped everything else to catch the guys.

Hate it for the guy and his family, but this is a perfect example of why legal poker, both online and at casino's should be legal in this country.

I played in NYC one time, but security was tight (either mob or wannabe mob), and it was only for a few hundred. Lots of people, probably 3-4 tables.

I'm guessing in this case, it was a cash game and he was a big winner. Probably robbed on the way to the car.

Poker is legal at casinos and on-line.....playing for money not taxed on-line is illegal.
