I was at an induction ceremony for the LA Italian-American group at which Paul Bertuccini and Andy Canizzaro were being inducted. Mainieri gave the introduction for Bertuccini, and of course had a lot of good things to say about him. But he also said that Andy Canizzaro would be a famous big league executive one day. It was the kind of event where everyone compliments everyone, but I was still impressed by how highly he regarded AC.

Javi was not fired. He told Mainieri before the season that this
would be his last season coaching. He wanted to move back to Florida and get more involved with his family business prospects.
