Why do people in Harahan/Kenner/New Orleans hate turn signals?

For those who are natives, why do you not use your blinkers when you're getting ready to turn? It's an epidemic. After a few months of careful observation, close to half of the drivers I see do not use their turn signals around here. Plenty of the ones that do don't turn them on until they've started turning.

it's not limited to that area.. i probably see it 20-30 times on my commute to and from work in BR.

because if you signal your intentions then some a-hole will go out of their way to cut you off and deny you instead of opening up a space to let you in.

I drove to BR daily for 6 years.
It is noticeably worse around harahan. The overall level of shitty driving is about the same, but the lack of blinker useage is very noticable

I'd like to email you a personality profile questionnaire so I can get to the root cause of this and get to fixing it.
I asked a guy I work with who I know never uses his, and he said because he just doesn't think about it. Is stupid the overall problem or is it just his reason and everyone else's is something else?

I use mine for any turns, but I'll admit I don't use it a lot of the times when I switch lanes on the interstate.

That doesn't bother me much.
There are people here who never use blinkers, and it seems to be normal and accepted here to not use them but bitch when somebody else doesn't use them.

The specific gesture is going to be the front someone's car planted firmly in the trunk of theirs one day.
It's dangerous and stupid. I'm trying to come up with a good stereotype to apply to them. I want to pull them over and ask questions when they do it to see if they're stupid, clueless, assholes, or smart with some type of reasoning behind it.

I recently moved to New Orleans and have had this conversation many times. Blinkers do not exist here.
