A young Philadelphia mother, hit with gun charges in New Jersey after being caught during a traffic stop with the firearm she carries legally in her home state, is hoping for leniency from the judge in the case, she tells FoxNews.com

quote:

Shaneen Allen, 27, who is facing three years in prison, said Thursday she remains “very much worried” about her future and her two sons, Niaire, 10, and Sincere, 3, since being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon — a .380 Bersa Thunder handgun — and possession of hollow-point bullets after making an unsafe lane change in New Jersey’s Atlantic County on Oct. 1.

quote:

Allen, who has no prior criminal record, said she acquired the gun legally just a week prior to her arrest. She was headed to Atlantic City, N.J., in the early-morning hours to prepare for her son’s birthday party, which was being held three days later.

quote:

Allen purchased the gun for protection after being robbed twice in the past year, she said, adding that she never even fired it and feels somewhat snake-bitten by the entire ordeal.

It's a good thing these new wave of gun laws by lib lawmakers are keeping the streets safe and ruthless thugs from committing mass murder.

Shall we dig up all of the old threads....

'they'll never arrest law abiding citizens'

'these laws are designed for criminals'

'they'll never confiscate your guns....you crazy right wing paranoid clinging to your guns and religion conservatives'

NJ has very clear hollow point laws. Her ignorance of the law is no defense.

The gun charge is BS, but she does deserve jail time for this:

Niaire is bad enough, but to name your son Sincere

First friggin reply to the thread shows you their strategy. Change the law, and you're no longer a law abiding citizen. Boom.

I'm a big fan of the second amendment and think this is bullshite. That being said, she should do her research of gun laws in any state she visits.

New Jersey isn't her home state. Learn their laws before you carry a gun there. This could have been avoided if she had taken 5 minutes to research.

...But they do. Don't you see? That's the point. The perimeter of what is lawful is made to gradually shrink. You never moved, but suddenly you're outside of the perimeter. That's the idea behind the gun laws that retroactively criminalize heretofore regular people. You ARE a criminal because they MADE you one.

They're stupid and unconstitutional - another attempt to define lawful objects away.

A firearm, particularly a handgun carried for self-defense, is intended to cause death or great bodily harm if discharged. That's the entire point.

Let me ask you this, does law enforcement in New Jersey carry FMJ ammunition in their service weapons, on or off duty?

You'd think there would be a privileges and immunities clause exception regarding safe passage and travel. There should be, anyway.

NJ gun laws are insane. However, I can remember a few similar cases where the person got punished hard---prison time, but they were white men. If this lady walks, it will be because of her race and gender.

Yes they are. Why is a single mother of two driving to Atlantic City (a good hour and 20 minute drive) at 1 am? The story about hiding a birthday cake and dog at a hotel is suspect. More than likely she bought the gun as a straw purchase or she was partying it up in AC.
