I'm not implying anything here, but just yesterday I saw 2 people riding bikes on busy highways without helmets here in Baton Rouge. I almost rolled down my window to yell at them, but I'm not that much of an old man yet. Don't tempt fate people.

I've been hit once and was lucky enough to walk away with a little road rash. I've worn a helmet ever since.
There are bike lanes in this location where the accident occurred.

frick
I was right around there yesterday. I don't own a helmet and most of the time don't wear a shirt either.

hit by a truck then hit again by SUV
don't think a helmet woulda been much help.

Not a truck, a tractor trailer. Very unfortunate.

Im amazed at the amount of cyclist that ride with no markers/lights at night.
Not sure if it is a law, but I have almost hit a couple taking a left on Esplanade because it is so dark.

Agreed. The thing that gets me about cyclists is that the vast majority of them don't obey traffic laws. Apparently traffic lights and stop signs don't apply if you are riding a bike.

Prayers for him & the family.

Neither do most automobile operators.

Driver not issued a citation. Biker must have been riding in the wrong direction.

Quote from a witness that popped on on my FB feed (I don't know the guy):
quote:
I was there. The cyclist was operating legally in the cycling lane, going in THE CORRECT direction of traffic on St. Claude, crossing Elysian Fields on St. Claude. The truck driver DID NOT check for cyclists, pedestrians, or other traffic and made a right turn. I was behind the truck and saw everything. I saw that guy's lower leg pop away from his left knee. I saw the look of panic and confusion on his face as he was pulled under the wheels by his bike and how the wheel ran over his chest and his head exploded and his brains popped out and that's EXACTLY WHAT MOTHER frickING HAPPENED AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT, BECAUSE IF YOU ARE A PERSON RIDING YOUR BIKE IN THIS CITY, YOU ARE IN DANGER AND THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS CITY DO NOT VALUE YOUR LIFE.
