If you haven't seen at least 10 big black cats in wild in your life you need to get the hell off this board bro

Camping once, I heard the call of one deep in the woods (an otherworldly sound for those who have heard it.)

I hear people in Louisiana say this all the time. I'm not trying to call anyone a dumbass, but 90% of hunters have never heard a bobcat or a racoon growl. When the remaining 10% of hunters hear that sound, 99% of them are adamant they heard a "black panther" or "panther". There is nothing you can say to persuade them otherwise.

I have spent more time in the LA woods than most and I have never seen, heard, or even thought I have have seen any type of sign of any big cat.

Anybody here have any experience with big cats (Cougars, Panthers, etc.) in the wild?

not yet, but I hope I'm armed when I do. Hopefully it's in season too. That's asking a lot

There have been two sightings of a cat (probably the same one) within a mile of my place in the last 6 months.

Was deer hunting at my camp in poplarville ms this past thanksgiving
Morning. Saw a big cat, looked over 100lbs, walk across a lane on my left (no it was not black.) couldnt believe it at first. The next day i was talking to the guy who owns the land west of us and he said he saw a big cat a few days before and took a shot at it but missed. Im about 5 miles from pearl river, so my guess is this cat travels up and down the river. Ive read that their territorys can stretch upwards of 100 square miles

the most horrific sound I have ever heard in the woods was the death scream of a coon being killed by a bobcat

it happened right before light, and I was petrified to move because I had no idea what the frick was behind me until I saw the bobcat carrying the coon once it got daylight

Indeed. I caught one in a cage under my house this past winter. He roared when the trap shut and my wife jumped out of bed like Godzilla was breaking down the door.

I heard a roar/growl one time right before daylight and it scared the crap out of me. I was in a tree looking down in the darkness trying to make out what had to be a bear/jaguar/hyena of some sort that was 50yds in front of me. A few minutes later I was able to see what was making the noise. I don't know why he was making the sound, but the horrific noise was coming from the mouth of a 15-18 lb bobcat. It was ultra-impressive.
