New Orleans gets a top 10 ranking among world cities in 2014 from Travel + Leisure magazine
By Mark Waller, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
Travel + Leisure Magazine has named New Orleans one of the world's top 10 cities to visit, adding to a long procession of tourism accolades the city has collected in recent years.
The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau issued an announcement celebrating the designation, quoting a Travel + Leisure editor saying the Southern cities on the list have a "sense of ease and authenticity" that appeals to travelers.
The CVB announcement names some of the other recent tourism nods: "The designation as a 'World's Best City' is New Orleans' most recent accomplishment in a string of accolades, including a 'Must See Destination for 2014' by National Geographic, a 'Best American City for Foodies' by Conde Nast Traveler and 'One of Six Trips That Will Change Your Life' by Coastal Living Magazine.

New Orleans among best U.S. cities to retire in
By Jennifer Larino, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
A NerdWallet analysis released this week ranks New Orleans as the second best city in the nation to retire in based on a number of factors including affordability, weather and the presence of fellow retirees.
New Orleans ranked behind only Miami, which scored extra points for a large existing population of retirees and its warm weather.
Factors that helped drive New Orleans to second place included its low cost of living, rich culture and food, and the availability of events and services for seniors organized by groups such as the New Orleans Council on Aging.

Look I'm one of NOLA's biggest cheerleaders here but not every one of these stupid lists needs to be put here for validation. Especially when it won't do anything to change our systemic failures in education, crime, and infrastructure.

That's why there are so many houses with burglar bars on the doors and windows.

Really simple solution for this:
Don't click the thread and respond when you see the title

Your city isn't even a fricking city; it's a wish, a frickin neo-segregation yuppie haven that takes pride in its cookie cutter neighborhoods and chain restaurants.

This must explain the rising real estate prices.

New Orleans has a lot to offer, but I don't see it as a retirement spot. Maybe that's just me.

New Orleans is a bad investment. The planned obsolescence is enough to frighten people away from ever purchasing a home in NOLA.
