Sound keeps going out on my ASUS laptop

starting a couple of days ago my speakers randomly stop working and I have to restart the computer to get them to come back on. restarting it only fixes it temporarily as it cuts back out again soon after. any of you tech gurus can help me out here?

What model, what OS, and how recently have you updated/reinstalled the audio drivers?
