Have you seen this movie or any other Jonathan Glazer movie?

"The next Stanley Kubrick" is a more than appropriate comparison.

No it's not. And I liked this movie btw.

Under the Skin might be worse than every Kubrick film. Most people don't even know who Glazer is and it's not like he's very young. I think he's almost 50. He better have an incredible 20 years if he wants to sniff Kubrick.

Unless you are just saying their styles are similar?

Regardless, Scarlett Johansson is fully naked multiple times, so there's that too...

Hardly, easily the most disappointing nude reveal I've seen.

Saying someone is the next Stanley Kubrick is not the same thing as saying their styles are similar.

Pardon my ignorance but is this an "old" movie or a recent release?

Actually she had implants, and then she went back and had a reduction. Here is a link talking about it: LINK

I've seen some of his music videos and commercials, bits of Sexy Beast (not interested).

By the time Kubrick was 45, he had directed:

Paths of Glory (1957)

Spartacus (1960)

Lolita (1962)

Dr. Strangelove (1964)

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Glazer is 49 and has directed Sexy Beast, Birth and Under the Skin

I am actually a huge fan of Sexy Beast but his resume is ZERO compared to Kubes. Zero.

Dallas,

Clearly I was referring to style. If you can't see style and tone similarities, then we'll just have to disagree.

And I consider myself a Kubrick aficionado. Studied him in media school at Missouri State. I feel that I can tell if a movie has a Kubrick look and feel.

And some very respectable movie critics agree.

Ah, well that's different then. I haven't seen the films, honestly, and I don't get the style from his music videos and commercials (and I'm not a snob - Ridley Scott, my favorite director, has a significant body of commercial work, and there is the potential for artistic expression there, as well).

So, I can't agree or disagree on that point.

What brought me into the thread was the part where you said:

quote:

Jonathan Glazer, the director, is without a doubt the next Stanley Kubrick.

And that is unsupportable hyperbole - at best.
