Where is the best and cheapest place to buy steel targets? Internet? Local? Welding shop?

I use tractor discs. I weld a little bit of chain to the back of the disc and then hang it from a little a-frame that I built. They work fine for pistol work but rifle fire puts a hole right thru it.

I think there is a group buy on snipershide right now from big dog steel, he makes excellent targets.

Is it a specific steel? I have a friend who runs a welding shop nearby.

Ar500 different thicknesses for bigger guns.

Check the prices, more than likely not even worth your friends time unless he has this stuff in his shop.

Have to correct myself, the group buy over there is with JC Steel Targets.

Doesnt really matter though, they are excellent targets.

I get scrap blinds from a local water jet shop. Might be able to get my hands on some extra.

When welding shops cut a flange they are left with a hole in the middle. Thats scrap to them and a target to you.

+1 on Shootsteel.com

I've been using their targets for about 3 years now. They are a bit dinged from being shot by a rifle up close, but they have a really long way to go before actually having a hole in them. I highly recommend them. The only things you will need to replace over time are the wood pieces and occasionally the bolt heads will strip off.

local welding shop, they will have some drops of T-1 or higher alloy.
$20 should land you some targets... I would think.
