This is probably because people (companies) are finally migrating off of their XP computers.

I wonder how many of those are laptops. Laptops used to be bigger and heavier and only give you 2-4 hours of battery life. Now they are a lot more competitive with tablets in terms of portability and battery life.

Not quite the same. In your thread, you were asserting that desktops were dead/dying, but not necessarily laptops, right? I mean, 80 percent of the world's PCs use Intel CPUs, so any time there's a surge in PC purchases (which include 2-in-1's, chromebooks, and Mac and Windows notebooks and desktops), Intel shareholders are going to be happy.
Of course PCs aren't dead. I don't think anyone here is ignorant enough to think that.

No one should think that. It is just that 5 years ago people that wanted to do a select number of fairly simple things had to own a PC to do those things and now they do not.
PCs have peaked.
They won't be dead any time soon but suggesting that they are rallying is silly.
I prefer my iPad over my laptop for anything that either will do. I generally only get on my laptop for things it will do that my iPad can't.

Maybe I'll feel differently if I ever purchase a tablet, but I don't see the point in them. There's nothing I can do on a tablet that I couldn't already do on my smart phone or laptop.

I actually use an Android tablet for work.
I prefer my iPad over my laptop for every day stuff.
I get on my laptop for long form writing, Photoshop, a couple of games, and whatever else pop ups that my iPad can't do.
My iPad is definitely my first choice otherwise and that has become the case more and more in the last 4 or 5 years since I got the first iPad.
I can't see not wanting or needing a laptop for the foreseeable future, but it has become a secondary platform with my use case, which I imagine is fairly typical.
I prefer my iPad over my laptop for every day stuff.
I get on my laptop for long form writing, Photoshop, a couple of games, and whatever else pop ups that my iPad can't do.

In my experience, tablets are fricking garbage. I've only "worked" with IPad, IPad 2, and the Air, Asus tf700t, and Surface Pro 2, but I wouldn't take one of them over a laptop. Remote support is soooooo much fun on them

I got the Surface PRO 3 a couple weeks ago and I like it a lot more than I thought I would. I love the click of the pen to One note. Comes in real handy on a sales call. Microsoft doesn't have all the apps but I don't use a ton of those.

For Sales people or others that just need to connect and enter some data on the go, sure a tablet is easier and more portable. I'm just curious as to what you think most of the world does that typical business users can have even half the productivity on a tablet.

I would shoot myself if I had to work with excel on a tablet for any extended length of time.
