Dick & Jenny's good but disappointed

Went to Dick & Jenny's last night as everyone already knows. Got there at 6:45 and were promptly seated. Our friendly and attentive waitress asked us if we would like drinks. My friend got a glass of chardonnay and I declined as I try not to drink during the week. She came back and told us about the soups of the day and asked if we had any questions. My friend asked how many scallops came on the dish (b/c some places like Rue127 rip you off) and the waitress misunderstood but beautifully described the dish, and the added that it came with 5 large scallops when re-asked.
Here is where I was disappointed. I couldn't decide between the lamb shank, rabbit fricassee, or the bouillabaisse, so I asked her what her favorite was. She quickly informed me that neither the lamb or the rabbit were on the menu b/c the chef was no longer doing braised meats for the summer and they hadn't updated their menu or added new items. I was pretty bummed b/c I was leaning towards the rabbit. Anyway, I ordered the bouillabaisse.
She took our order and promptly came out w/ some delicious corn bread and I think it was sourdough bread w/ butter. Cornbread was delicious, sourdough was ok.
Our entrees came out and looked great. She said hers was delicious but somewhere in the middle of eating she said there was something gritty in the dish.
My dish was delicious, I just wish I had more bread to sop up the delicious broth.
I'm not big on desserts, so we declined.
Place was pretty empty when we got there and not very busy when we left. But it was a Tuesday... Anyway, I would go again. I was just disappointed they didn't have the full menu.

heard from many people that it isn't what it used to be

I totally understand not serving braised meats during the summer, but restaurants should update their menu accordingly.
It's disappointing to make a selection and then to be told it's unavailable.

Too bad you didn't ask for recommendations before you chose D&J.....
Seriously, sorry to hear you didn't thouroughly enjoy your meal. I find the place pretty underwelming, but I've only had it to-go.
It's interesting to hear they removed 2 braised dishes but didn't replace with a "summer" dish. I know Domenica removed the Stracci (oxtail & chicken liver) dish for the summer time too.
I wonder if this has more to do with an increased cost of the items or people aren't ordering them.

If they don't bring it back by the first crisp breeze, I'm going in and busting skulls!

If only they could remove the chicken livers

Whaaaaa...?
They're amazing!
I tried my hand at making them at home recently, and... no thanks. I will order them from other places from now on.

Agreed. Really pissed me off.
I actually ran into Alon at Le bon Temps a few weeks ago and mentioned it to him. He said it would be back.
But if he lies.

Ole lady at the time wasn't feeling well but wanted something nice. She lived a few blocks away and hadn't tried it so I scooped it up.
I wanted to see if they were doing anything different with the new ownership.

I always thought it was called "Dick in Jennys"

I've only been once about 5 years ago and it was phenomenal.
They changed owners right?

Aren't you a sweetheart.
When I was googling for the new menu yesterday, I came across a "Dick & Jenny's" menu from NY. I wish that was the menu down here.

Still mad about paying $27 for 3 tiny arse scallops

I don't dislike scallops, but I find them really boring for some reason. Can never bring myself to order them because they're usually on a menu with braised meats, which is my weakness.

The first time I went neither myself nor my girl ordered the scallops, but were overall disappointed in every facet of the meal otherwise.
Second time I went on the company dime. Four of us and we pretty much ordered the entire menu. The scallops included - which were a joke for the price. Couple things were tasty, but overall again the place just isn't worth what they're charging.
Sounds like Dick & Jenny's was about what everyone expected .. not terrible, not memorable. They should definitely replace excluded dishes & update their damn menu when they remove things.

Next time I have friends from out of town, I am sending them to your house. Sounds like your going rate is $2 a day for room and board. Shoot, I can make you a whole batch of bouillabaisse and braised meats and come out even cheaper.
