Any brands to stay away from?

Any brands that you feel are superior in comfort and durability?

I've had a pair of plain old Red Wing 8" lace ups for about 10 years, and they've always felt a little tight in the toe-box. I haven't had to wear them everyday. But now it looks like I'll need an everyday pair.

I'm also trying to decide between lace-up and Wellington.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lace-ups or pull-ons just depends on what you're doing with them. I walk on uneven terrain all day, so lace-ups are what I use for that. When I am not working, I wear regular pull-ons. Both are 10 or 11" tall. You also have to decide if you need them to be waterproof.

A lot of it also depends on how much you want to spend. Custom boots are

I went back to Justins for my new pair based on availability. I needed them quickly. I did want Thorogoods though, just didn't have time to wait for them to get here. My current lace-ups are Red Wings, but I need new ones. They have a few thousand miles on them, and they have seen better days. My next pair of lace-ups will be custom Whites, Wesco, or Nick's because Red Wing quality took a dramatic downturn a few years back. They are garbage now and Warren Buffet owns 98% of the boot market now. He decided that they should all be made overseas

Sounds to me like you just need regular old boots. Get the Justin 4441 or Thorogood 804-3310 and you'll be happy. Whatever you buy, get them fully American made. Red Wing now has this thing "assembled in America", but they are shite parts and shite leather that are both imported. If you look on the manufacturer websites, they will let you choose the American made ones

there must be something to that because I always wore wolverines but in the past year or so I find the quality of their product has gone to shite ...

its funny because I been saying the next pair I buy im going to try Justin boots .....

Yes, Berkshire Hathaway bought the vast majority of the boot companies and started making garbage boots. Hell, most of the Justin line-up is made overseas now

I bought a pair of Keen lace ups a few months ago. They look like hiking boots and are waterproof. Most comfortable pair of steel toes I've ever put on my feet.

I walk a LOT at work, including a good bit of climbing stairs at times. I had Tony Lamas that were really comfortable in the beginning but then the insides started coming apart. I had Justins but the soles wore out. I've had a pair of Ariat square toe for about 7 months and love them. The most comfortable boot I've ever worn. I used to only wear lace up Doc Martens but have been wearing slip on boots for the past few years.

I'm a couple months in with my first pair of square composite toe Justins. No complaints so far.

Ariat workhog is the most comfortable BUT depending on where you are wearing them they can be slick as greased owl shite on the bottom. I've heard there is a problem with them wearing out fast but I don't actually wear mine every day. More like 3 times a week. Had them since the beginning of January and there's no sign of premature wear.

Justin mule hide are the longest lasting boots I've ever had, but I don't think they make them in America anymore. They also have soft soles that will wear out far before the boot does.

Currently a redwing lace up fan. The redwing loggers are extremely comfortable, but they have super swamper soles and track mud everywhere.

Soles are easily replaceable on the American made ones

It is also a huge PITA trying to get dog shite out of them

Mine have lasted forever. I could use a new sole and that leather piece in between the sole and boot right now. They are still waterproof and comfortable. Everywhere I've called around Metairie doesn't fix logger boots, so I guess I'll wear these until I can save up the $500-800 for custom ones. I don't think I trust Red Wing enough to buy another pair though. I ruined two pairs of brand new boots within a month and had to end up getting my money back

I have worked with people who have custom boots, and these have lasted just as long. I clean them once every month or two with Lexol and melt some Obenaufs into them. Like I said though, they have a few thousand miles on them. I don't walk on concrete, so the soles are still decent

This is the part that is fricked up

Eta: Almost all of those cuts are from briars and thorny vines, and none of them went through

Eta #2: I also wouldn't advise someone who didn't need them to walk around in boots that weigh close to 5lbs a piece. Sort of like buying a diesel to pull a bass boat

Currently wearing mine in my cushy office

I like em but I'm used to big nasty boots. Badass for climbing but I'm not sure how the soles are going to hold up with concrete mileage.

My regular redwing lace ups are not as comfortable as these IMO

The Vibram 100s won't last for shite on concrete, but Vibram does make a sole specifically for that

I don't put enough concrete or grating miles anymore to worry about it.

My other redwing soles have an assload of grating miles and are still in good shape.

American made Justin's are still my favorite for concrete and grating. They're the most comfortable IMO. These loggers are the best for climbing and farm or woods work.

I threw away my Redwings when I slipped a pair of Gerogia Zero Drag boots on. Super comfortable and wear well. I've worn many but will stick with Georgia for life.
