Thought that might be worth reading. Knew it was a waste of time when I read he was from California.

Nice fluffy words

Then I retread snd saw he was from Texas. So he must be right.

I clean mine with a little Dawn every once in a great while if one of my skillets is particularly messy or I've cooked fish in it. I dry it in the oven. Mine are seasoned so well that I've never had to reaseason.

Cast Iron "Myths" Explained

So they pretty much aren't myths then.

FWIW, i season my cast iron pot after every meal i cook. I rinse and scrup with a copper brillo pad. Then put a dab of oil, and take a paper towels to coat the inside. Then throw it on the stove for about 2-4 minutes on high.

Most of the time I just wipe them out and put them back in cabinet. Try not to boil in them. Or cook tomatoes or other high liquid and high acid foods.

If oiled and heated to cooking temp before adding food nothing sticks.

I have no idea what they think they accomplished with that article.

My aunt asked me last year what I wanted for my birthday. I told her a nice cast iron skillet. Bless her heart, she bought me one with ridges in it

All of mine save a few were my grandmother's. I've never had to reseason any of them.

I bet that is some good iron. All of my cast iron is pre-WWII but for one gumbo pot (dad gave to me long time ago) and a Lodge my son gave me a couple of years ago.

Do you know what brand they are? I'm a cast iron junkie and love to see old pieces.

No big deal, was just curious. When I first started collecting and stuff I would look at every piece I ever saw. My mom was shocked when I was over one day and noticed she had a very old Wagner piece and told her I though it was pretty valuable. That has been her "go to" skillet since the '70s. Said she found it in a closet in a house we lived in in Baker when I was little (early '70s). I have some price books and it was worth approx. $250.

Like grill pan ridges? If so, as an urban dweller I use the shite out of my grill pan because I don't have a BBQ grill. It does cook a nice steak in the oven on broil.

I have 4 pans now. I bought a new small Lodge in college. It is like 12 years old now.

Then after my grandmother passed, each of the grandkids got some of her cookware. I got a small pan that is great for cornbread. That thing is probably 60 or 70 years old.

I bought a larger Lodge for the purpose of making big batches of cornbread for my wife to make dressing. I love the crust my two smaller pans would make when we were just eating the cornbread, but I wanted a bigger one to fry bacon in and to make big cornbread.

I got a grill pan a few months back. I don't do a lot with it, but it was a new Lodge and cheap, and figured why not. It is great for burgers, steaks, and bacon. And sometimes I make a grilled cheese in it. Also good for tossing hot dogs or sausage in.

I hardly ever use soap. All of them are seasoned so well that I never need it. I just scrub them out with a nylon kitchen brush and rinse with really hot water, then toss them back in the oven while it is hot with a little oil smeared around in them.
