I'm looking to have a will drawn up as well as some other legal docs related to estate. I've emailed several firms and only heard back from one so far. This firm offers 3 packages. The most expensive is about $1700 for a couple, includes will, power of attorney papers, living will, disposition of remains, etc etc. The cost includes all docs on CD a well as revisions done as needed for no extra charge. Filing and witnesses also provided.
The basic package is around $1200 and includes everything in 1st package but any revisions would be subject to $250/hr.

Are these prices about right for decent legal work? I'm in TX BTW.

Pretty close unless you use legalzoom or something. How old are you?

Late 20's. Considered legal zoom but not sure I trust it. I know legal docs need to be just so and I've read some bad stuff online about online legal docs. Of course maybe that's just attorneys badmouthing so they won't lose business.
My estate isn't too complicated either. Pet cut and dry imo but I want it done right.

Don't do legal zoom. Go see a lawyer. Those fees are not expensive.

I didn't think they were expensive. I just have nothing to compare it to and wanted to make sure they're in line with basic attorney fees.

I'd be a little concerned about "$250 per hour for revisions". Give the attorney(s) all details about your estate and what you want and get a flat price if possible. $1700 sounds about right imo.

Because of your age there will probably be a few revisions so I would go with the free revision package.

$250 per hour is cheap for a quality estate planner. There are quite a few experts in the field in Houston and Dallas, and they can charge multiples of that.

I'd like to know what the scope of revisions includes. I'd imagine the $1,700 flat fee does not include anything more complicated than a living trust and pour over will using boiler plate language. I doubt it includes the drafting of trusts.
