How did the NFL and NBA become the 2 "year round" professional sports?

It seems like we talk about these sports in the dead of summer, after the seasons end, it seems like the hype machine never ends. I couldn't get rid of my NBATV package if I wanted to because I would have missed the exciting summer league games. We don't do this with baseball and definitely not with hockey. Is it just because ESPN has 24hrs of the day and needs to fill programming content?

It's because football and basketball are more fun to watch and talk about than baseball and hockey

It's because they're the 2 best sports and the 2 highest leagues of those sports.

You just seem to be a fan of those two sports. Baseball runs from April to October and then there is the winter free agency and then pitchers and catchers report in February.

Baseball season isn't much longer than Basketball or Football.... I've proven this time and time again, the games aren't any longer than any of those sports either which makes those arguments fun

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of baseball but they NEVER talk baseball on the radio except in NY or Boston. The last few years when the Rangers were awesome all Dallas sports radio talked about was Cowboys and Mavs (in that order).

People are going to stop talking about basketball after the next week or two until October.

Baseball has too many games to be very appealing

Hockey are big in only certain cities

Soccer is once every 4 years

Golf/Tennis cater to the rich OTers

Dunno, I think the MLB has done well for itself with some of it's younger exciting players like Trout, Cespedes, Martin, McCutchen, and Profar. They've started taking after other leagues in promoting individual athletes more than teams themselves. As a fan I think individual praise is annoying and arbitrary, (Go Spurs Go!) but from the perspective of business models it's a great way to go.

Seriously, outside of the finals no one gives a shite about basketball.

They do need to promote the stars better. I also think (unpopular opinion) but baseball needs bunch of African American stars to market as well. The "diversity quotient". Andrew McCutchen is nice but he plays in Pittsburgh and Matt Kemp is overrated.

Not exactly true, but the idea that the NBA is driving year round sports is hilarious. It's not in the same hemisphere as the NFL in that regard.

I don't know what you're talking about. I'm looking forward to actually enjoying a sport being played down here
