I knew this guy with a dirt bike who advertised as a stuntman. He was horrible. He did this big jump (over a bunch of buses) sponsored by the local radio station in order to pay for his dad's heart transplant, conveniently priced at $50,000. The kicker was that he only wanted to save his dad so he could kick his arse in a fight. Weird family. I believe he did raise the money though.

In college one of my fraternity brothers got a DWI and needed money to pay for it, so he had a beer bust in conjunction with a local bar.

I believe there's about 5 or so people on Facebook begging for money for various things such as vet bills, book printing, etc through an online fundraiser page - they all work minimum wage jobs.

at LSU games you'll get kids selling candy for one thing or another, but few years ago couple of little kids with their mom come up to our group seeking donations "so we can go to a family reunion"

wtf?

Not 'weird', but the parents having fundraisers/asking for donations to offset the cost of their kid's travel ball tournaments always kills me. If you can't afford all the hotels, gas, eating out, tourney fees, uniform fees, etc...don't fricking play travel ball. I'm not giving money to you so your kid can go spend a weekend in MS playing baseball.

My wife said that last week one of the janitors at work was selling catfish dinner plates to raise money for their family reunion.

When I worked in new orleans east, the locals would have "suppers" to raise money for "school clothes" for dey kids.
