Sell the boat? Dilemma

shite has just hittith the fan!! Just found out my wife is preggos w our 2nd, '1st is 7mths old' and we discussed selling the boat. We bought a 2011 PF brand new and financed it for a couple years, thinking it would be a while before we had kids. Now we are about to have 2 less than 2 years apart and still paying a boat note. I def know that my fishing trips are far a few between now as it is, maybe 8x a year, gonna be alot less now. What would the smarter thing to do....let the boat go or just hang on to it? Be serious, no OT shite lol.

In all seriousness if you can afford to keep it then do it. There will be times when you just need to get out of the house. Even if just for a couple of hours.

honestly, I think I would sell it...you are gonna be paying a note on a boat that is depreciating like crazy and realistically are not gonna be fishing much for the next several years....

How much is your payoff on your loan? Did you put up a sizeable down payment?

If you won't have to get under the couch cushions to pay the note I would definitely keep it.
As your kids get a little older they will love it.

Sorry to say, but go ahead and sell it.
When we started popping out kids, the fishing trips got fewer and fewer.
I'm one of those guys that wanted to be with family as much as possible.
The boat is suffering due to lack of use for the past 4 years.
Now that the kids are older, I'm about to sell the old boat and get something larger that the whole family can go fishing in.

Honestly...if it were me, I'd sell the boat and get a kayak or two.
It cost money to properly maintain the boat/insurance/note. Then it cost money to run the boat anywhere with these gas prices.
Not to mention the lack of time.
Pay off that note and free up disposable income.
Get the yak to be able to fish/just get outdoors and relax.
Little to no maintenance and it gets you on the water.
...kinda facing a similar situation too...however, the wife wants to keep the boat, so I'm game.

When your kids are older it will be good to have a boat. But we are talking like 7 or 8 years down the road. Selling and buying later is not a problem. You do the same with cars. But when kids are young and money is tight you probably won't get value out of it. And let's face it, you and your wife are both sacrificing right now. If it comes down to barely scraping by with a boat in the carport or having some breathing room and making your wife more comfortable while having to ride with someone else to fish, it really isn't a tough decision.

You need to sit down with the Mrs. and truly determine how much you will use it. If shes the type that has to have you home all the time then sell it, if she's like mine and can deal with you away a weekend or two a month than keep her.
If you cant use regularly its just gonna sit and deperciate and the worst thing for a boat is to sit up and not use it. If wont use alot sell and when kiddo's are old enough to fish buy anoter rig.
Also can just look at chartering if you will only fish a couple times a year, will be alot cheaper in the long run.

First question will be to determine if you are upside down on the boat as far as what you can sell it for and what you owe. While it may make the most sense to sell it if you take a loss may not be in the end.
On the flip side with a 4 yo and 2 yo at the house I have gone from hunting ducks 45 days a season and fishing 3 times/week until kids arrived. It will be MUCH more difficult to keep the boat and feel like you are using it.

My kids have just hit the age where I should get a boat with a motor that wasn't made in 1984. I have the opposite issue right now.

i had same situation a few yrs ago and sold my boat. dad has 2 at all times and i was welcome to them whenever i wanted. u prob have a buddy/relative that u can lean on till kids get older.
it gets better when they older and can go with u. me, dad, and bro-in-law now have 5 btwn us (and hear crap from wives all the time about it, but i dgaf)

She enjoys fishing just as much as i do if not more. We have to have a boat, just be because of how outdoors we are, just maybe one not so big/expensive. We still owe quite a bit, wasnt the smartest decision we made when we picked it up and the intrest rate is somewhere around 7%. Was more of an impulse buy. I could always pick up a nice used express later down the road. It costs us an avg of $500 just to fish one weekend in dularge, thats a guided trip easy & not counting the note/insurance. frick!!! I dont know what to do!...its still basically new...just rolled 60hrs
