Obviously by my username, I am one of the poors you see at the drink fountain in your local Circle K filling up one of those oversized styrofoam cups every morning.

I drink a minimum of one 44oz cup of Diet Mt Dew per day.....Time to stop.

I am about to drop a small fortune on dental work due to my coke consumption over the years.

Should I quit cold turkey, ween down to 12oz a day then zero?

I hear green tea is a good subsitute, but it would probably need to be decaf.

Scares the shite out of me quitting diet mt dew I only weight 155lbs so it never made me fat, but I would also like to quit for health benefits and to see better results as far as working out.

The headaches are probably gonna murder you at first, but just do it cold turkey. They'll stop soon enough once your body shakes the craving.

I did it cold turkey towards the end of high school with no problems. Had to actively remind myself I wasn't drinking them for about a month, then I just stopped thinking about ever drinking any. Went a year with no soft drinks at all. Been a few years since that and I still only drink one very occasionally.

Is it the caffeine or the cals/sugar?

If it's the latter just be an adult and switch to coffee.

I quit after awhile ago for lent (not catholic but did it anyway) I never looked back after the head ache stopped. I got turned on to coffee later that year but have only had one or two cokes in that 3 year period.

Maybe try one coffee and one soft drink a day to ease the pain. Drink lots of water. Best wishes!

Buy an infusion water bottle and fill it with different fruits and herbs to flavor your water since you're trying to quit soft drinks.

Have some damn will power and just stop. Its a soft drink, not heroin.

I find an easy way to do it is to just not have them available.

Drink tea to help with your headaches from caffeine.

I can't drink just water all day, I have to have something with flavor.

I like crystal light, sugar free koolaid, dasani drops, propel zero fitness water.

I don't think the dasani drops have aspartame if I recall correctly.

ETA: I drink a ton of water during the work day and usually drink the above after I get home.

I put all the carbonated stuff years ago for different reasons, like a retirement budget. Really wasn't a big issue. Last five years - water, occasional juice, coffee in the A.M. & of course, the Buds and an occasional Scotch & wine when dining out.

Recent blood test, the doc calls the lab asking if by some chance the numbers reported were reversed - best cholesterol numbers he has seen for someone my age since arriving at the VA a lot of years ago.

Hope it goes well.

I have a hard time drinking plain water, unless I'm dying of thirst. I quit Cokes using the little concentrated Kool-aid mix.

La croix water. Wait til you've had a twelve pack to decide if you like it or not bc it's an acquired taste. You'll thank me later.

First thing you should do is change your avatar. Seeing that big ol' cup all the time sure won't help you quit.

Good luck to you!

Cold Turkey only way to go. I was a heavy Coke drinker for years. The headaches were bad for about a week and a half. Used some migraine Tylenol or Advil for that week and kicked the addiction. You won't regret it

It is a mental thing, just like quitting anything else, I used to drink an obscene amount of carbonated beverages, decided it was time to stop, went cold turkey, at first I drink lots of lightly sweetened tea , then started drinking more and more water, know I am just about all water ( 1 cup coffee in the morning) water all day and at meals and sometimes a low calorie Gatorade at night, has been great for me and I feel great that I am not addicted to cold drinks anymore

Bottom line, if you are really ready for it, it will be easy

i was drinking 2-3 diet cokes a day along with coffee (at least 2 cups). i eventually put it down when i went on a cleanse diet. i had mild headaches but was able to supplement my caffeine with a drink that was part of the program (albeit i was only drinking 1-2 of them per day).

since then i've stayed around 1 or 2 caffeinated drinks per day (and no more diet cokes)
