My brother was at the Essense performance last weekend. Said it was incredible. He always gives 100%.
Saw this on FB. I don't know how old it is, the release of the video, I mean.
As I said in the now whacked OT thread, I'm so happy that the emotion is completely real and not the product of 8000 takes in a studio.

I heard it was a really cool performance at Essence. Apparently he was really engaging with the crowd and played a hit-heavy set. I just think I might be a little disappointed that he only played guitar on like two songs.

Think about this. He's not a household name yet, but knows he's going to be very soon, with the album and the movie forthcoming at that point. He knows he's made it big and how popular this is going to be. This is like a touchdown dance. Just amazing.

I've had troubles with musical types before. Sorry, music board. I judged you before I knew you.
The movie went over a lot better than a lot of people realize, especially among girls. Every girl I knew had memorized it. Prince is a terrible actor and the plot was not very interesting, but it was all just a platform for the music, which was revolutionary, IMO.

Brilliant. A buddy of mine posted a live version of this from around the same time that has a few variations. Prince -Purple Rain featuring Peruvian Marching Powder
