Planning a trip to the 2015 Kentucky Derby for 2 people.
Need some advice from people that have gone before.

I've been doing most of my pricing options research on www.derbyexperiences.com/2015Derby
Is there a better website to use? Do you recommend doing the travel/transportation details on my own?

Is there a certain grandstand height that is required in order to see the race?
(i.e. Need to be in 200's or 300's to see anything?)

Some of the seating is not covered.... are there any tricks to getting shade? Or are shaded seats a must (especially for rain)?

The Party, Grandstand, and Clubhouse Packages all list Hospitality Venues, but only one has private bathrooms listed as a feature. Is it just an oversight that the others don't list private restrooms?
Are the bathrooms accessible and lines reasonable?

Is one hospitality venue preferrable to the others?
Secretariat, Affirmed, Citation, Sunny's Halo, Smarty Jones, Street Sense.

Is there a price point where the value doesn't match the pricing increase?
Red grandstand is good enough; it's not worth upgrading to a lounge, free drinks, and cover for $1k per person.
Or... Orange grandstand is totally worth it for the first experience b/c the lounge and cover is worth the money.
Etc...

Thanks for your help!

Only real advice I can give from experience is don't get in the middle pit area. Pay the extra to get a seat in the grandstand.

I went in early 2000 and it was hot as all get out, took forever to place a bet and I didn't see one horse. (Was some nice scenary in the pit though)

From what I'm reading.... the open air boxes and crowd interaction along with the A/C lounges are worth the money. The last thing I want is to deal with sweltering heat and/or rain and complaining all day.

You can get a great view of the race and then go inside the hospitality venue between races.

Yeah, if I could do it over again or ever go again in the future, this is the only route I would take. I could see the pit area being fun if was with a group of buddies or something. But when I went it was hot and miserable.

Anyone sit in the grandstand seats with access to the Secretariat lounge before?

Anyone been to the seats with access to the Affirmed lounge before?

Starting to narrow it down between these two and trying to get an idea if the convenience of the mezzanine clubhouse terrace is worth it.
