...from some other Christians, that is.

LINK

Sorry for the link to GLAAD, twitter confuses me and this seemed like the easiest way to get the point across.

Maybe if he and a few other prominent leaders take this position, the gay rights movement will stop lumping all Christians together as hateful bigots (not that I think opposition to gay marriage is hateful or bigoted).

He should have made a statement saying you can not condone an action while still not wanting to legislate it away. Otherwise he can turn in his Christian band card, doesn't belong.

He's not necessarily arguing for legislation, but compassion and respect or fellow man.

can you post a summary of what he said? I'm not opening a GLADD website as I'm at work. I'm sure others are in a similar position.

I disagree completely with his "interpretation". He's free to interpret it however he wants and state it, but he should expect and accept views that are different, as he wants his accepted.

There were quite a few tweets, a sampling:

quote:

The treatment of people as less than human based on the color of skin is crazy... Or gender, or sexual orientation for that matter.

quote:

Not meaning to stir things up BUT... Is there a non-speculative or non "slippery slope" reason why gays shouldn't marry? I don't hear one

quote:

I just don't see a negative effect to allowing gay marriage. No societal breakdown, no war on traditional marriage. ?? Anyone?

And the one I agree with the most:

quote:

Because most people read and interpret scripture wrong. I don't think scripture "clearly" states much of anything regarding morality. I think the vast interpretation has left room for people to deal inhumanly and unlovingly toward others that don't fit their guidelines.

He has some really solid points.

quote:

Never liked the phrase: "Scripture clearly says...(blank) about..."

quote:

quote:

I don't particularly care about Scriptures stance on what is "wrong." I care more about how it says we should treat people.

quote:

If we know or do not know the particulars of a persons "wrongs," we should love them the same. Correct?

quote:

It is a form of dismissal when we assume we know a person once we identify their "sin." We withhold love for fear it would enable.

Not really a solid point, but ignoring Scripture for a "feel good" moment. I will agree that everyone should be treated the same and with respect, however, to ignore Scripture and to insinuate that God's word should be ignored is wrong, if he truly is one who claims to follow God. He's chosen to take a worldly stance, rather than one based on God's word.

I own Alice in Chains "Jar of Flies" ... but I do not own or ever care to own anything "Jars of Clay" or any other Christian rock band.

Nor do I care what their frontman's opinion is.

You sound pretty closed minded. Jars of Clay makes good music.

Yeah, they aren't bad... There are a TON of bands with "Christian" foundations. The ones I don't like are the praise bands. All of that shite sounds the exact same.

Guy made good points though. I'm very sick of people in this country who can't separate their religion from their desired legislation.

I'm sure you at least heard their song "Flood" in the 90's.

They have made some good music with Christian themes running through the lyrics, but not so much that it is preachy.

Because I think I'm no less of a Christian ... if I still enjoy Ozzy, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Pantera, White/Rob Zombie, AC/DC, etc.

And, just like I don't care what James Hetfield's position is on guns ... I similarly don't care what some Christian rock dude's opinion is on gays.

"Christian rock" just flat-out does not compute with me.

P.S. A fair question though ... and, the answer is ... because I was bored.

It is absolutely the worst form of art ever invented. Painting with feces is better than "Christian rock".

I bet half of them aren't even really that devoted - they're like Cartman from South Park.

Or it's just based in the desire not to change definitions to meet the fancy of society's every whim, but whatever.

BTW, gays can marry in every state.
