Sleepers: Who's the one guy on offense and defense that will stand out?

Offensive sleeper -- A veteran and probable captain, but I think that Connor Neighbors will have a great year. With a veteran offensive line and a young backfield/receiving corps/quarterback... I think he makes some big plays(blocks, catches or runs)for us that will ultimately change the course of a game.

Defensive sleeper -- This is a tough one. There are multiple guys I could gush over but there are two I think will step up in a big way : Tashawn Bower and Dwayne Thomas. Both are play-makers and that's something we sorely missed last season (not enough sacks). If you twisted my arm, I would have to say that Bower is the guy I think will have the most significant effect on our team defense and personality.

This may be a germans topic and somewhat premature, but I would like to know who y'all think the sleepers are for this up-coming season..

Trey quinn is an intriguing choice. I know he's working his butt off and there aren't too many guys I want to see succeed more than him, but my question is: Is Trey strong enough to get separation off the line against corners or safeties and is he big enough to take the hits that come with replacing a jarvis landry?

Without a doubt I believe he can. He's actually a pretty big dude and I just see him being an extremely good possession receiver for us early on.

fair enough and I pray he is, bc there will be a lot of catches coming his way.

Dural is the leader and I really think Trey is the second best receiver we have right now, I just wonder if a 18 year old kid is ready to handle the load and the task at hand that will come with replacing Jarvis.

Trey is plenty strong, and I think I've seen him drop <10 balls since pee wee football. And that's not an exaggeration. Everyone that knows him knows he's gonna be just fine this year and will end up being one of the top receivers to come through this program in a long time.

Jefferson is a good one. Robinson is also a good one because of what he has done with his body in the off-season but not sure he's a sleeper bc he's already good.

There are two guys at every defensive position you could list that have breakout potential. I think consistency and mental toughness will be extremely important this year or any year where we have so much youth on both sides of the ball.

Offense - Magee does not get enough love. He and Hilliard will be the leaders on offense and I fully expect him to lead the team in touches and total yards

Defense - Christian Lacatoure. He just doesn't make many mistakes. He isn't the most talented guy, but tough as nails and has a nose for the ball.

My definition of a "sleeper" is someone who produces despite little to no expectations coming into the season. With the lack of experience at the offensive skill positions, it's difficult to pick a sleeper. Many LSU fans have huge expectations for guys who have done nothing at this level (Fournette, Harris, Dupree, Quinn, just to name a few) I wouldn't consider any of those guys to be sleeper candidates coming into the season. That said, I'll go with Dillon Gordon on offense. While he will primarily be used as a 6th O-lineman, he's show the ability to get down field and make catches in traffic. With LSU likely to be a power running team, I think they find Gordon open on play-action in some big spots. He won't have a lot of catches at the end of the season, but the ones he does have will be significant.

Defense: Someone (maybe a few someones) HAS to step up on the DL if this team has ANY hope of winning the West. There I'll go with Greg Gilmore to be a bit of Mike Brockers type of player. Big guy who now with a little more size and strength is able to cause some disruption in the backfield.

DTs will be better than people think. Very big and talented group.

Thomas, Bain, Lacouture, Gilmore, Valentine, etc.

Offense is Magee. People have been talking about Fournette and HIlliard being good again. The guy is a very good SEC RB and will prove it again this year.

I really like your Connor Neighbors choice. I didn't think of him when I read the question, but a good fullback will be extremely important in the offense we will be running this year.

On defense, I think Christian Lacouture will end up being the rock at defensive tackle we are looking for.
