Trying to help a co-worker from California. He has some friends in NOLA until Friday or so for a convention, staying at the Mariott on Canal. Late 20s, early 30's group of 6 people (husbands and wives I believe). Trying to give them some good suggestions of what to do/where to eat. I don't think price is too much of an issue with this group.I definitely want to send them to Peche for either lunch or dinner. Maybe tell them to take the street car or cab to Commanders on evening. What about activities during the day and at night besides Bourbon, which I think they did last night pretty hard?

My parents ate at Commander's on Friday night. It was packed with a line waiting when they left after 9 pm. They got a last minute reservation through a family member or they wouldn't have had one, so you might want to check on that.

They also got a last minute reservation at Gautreau's, but not until 8 pm. That was fine for them, but might be late for some folks.. Gautreau's could be worth a try. They posted on Facebook last week indicating available reservations.

I would also consider Delmonico. Last meal there was really great. I have a review in the Dining Guide. If not, Emeril's is an excellent choice if reservations are available. It's one of my favorites. Very consistent.

If you're looking for another grande dame traditional New Orleans restaurant, Galatoire's shouldn't have long lines during the middle of the week right now, I wouldn't think unless there are other conventions.

For good crawfish bisque and etouffee type foods, including traditional New Orleans fish dishes for out of staters, try Bon Ton for lunch or dinner. It's only open during the weekdays.

ETA: I like Mr. B's if they want to try bbq shrimp and gumbo for visitors. They can go to the Carousel Bar in the Monteleone across the street before or after.

Really depends on what type of food they're interested in trying...Louisiana cuisine or something more eclectic or a mix. You might consider August if there's a reservation available for a group that large.

No planned for dining before they arrived?

Thanks for the suggestions. No, it doesn't appear they had anything planned ahead of time. Mr. B's is a very good choice, and has different things for all tastes!
