Hearing: Omri Casspi most likely gets waived by Pelicans after Asik three-way trade is completed Tuesday. Casspi then gets to pick new home

Hopefully this means they have something in mind for the SF spot. While Casspi wouldn't have been the answer, and isn't a "true SF", I doubt they would waive him if they didn't have something lined up.

Not a bad news I guess, it means we have a better plan.

I'm on the Joe Ingles / DeQuan Jones bandwagon.

That was actually my first thought. Dude has a weird obsession with foreign players (Pelicans), or guys that come from small schools (Saints).

Could turn out to be a great move, then.

That's a bit confusing. The clarification on the trade yesterday was that we took Casspi on separately for a minimum exception, almost like he was sweetener for making it a 3 way trade that helped Houston. Could this mean that they are closing in a SF they like better like Marion who's supposedly made a big deal about starting and want it to be clear what kind of opportunity he'd have here?

What? Why? Why was he included in the trade?

I feel like he would be a useful player for us as a backup. I really don't get it at all.

Then they could have waived Casspi themselves, no?

His deal for this year was non-guaranteed, so if they just wanted to shed his salary they could have just waived him. I figured he was thrown in the deal as a favor to us, as his deal was not needed to make the salaries match (according to the Ginsberg). Weird situation, but I guess we'll find out something within the next day or so.

Even if he was waived for us to make another move, what kind of move would we be making that we had to clear a guy in a position of need, that's on a vet minimum salary?

Yeah, I am very confused. I don't get it at all. We are unlikely to find anyone like him for his salary.

Only reasons I can think of are:

1) He's not completely unguaranteed and we saved Houston a few hundred thousand which would be a 2nd favor in addition to letting them trade for Ariza instead of burning their Lin Trade Exception.

2) We feel Casspi hurts us with an FA we want more like the Marion example I listed.

3) Demps thought it was a good freebie and then got feedback from the coaching staff that said No Thanks. I know on the BSS Podcast this morning McNamara was saying Casspi takes longer to shoot than Babbit.

4) This could be premature waving talk. Yesterday everyone said we were waving Gee when it was actually the team we flipped Gee to that would wave him.
