Just got a new DSLR and want to get a software program to maximize my photos and experiment with new techniques. Any photographers out there have any advice or opinions?

I'd take this one out of consideration.

Lightroom will do 99% of what you want to do. I have Lightroom and Photoshop and rarely go into Photoshop to edit.

LR is more database/catalog then just photo editing. That being said I rarely have to use photoshop, after using LR the past 5 years.

Can't go wrong with Lightroom. As a previous poster said, Lightfoot is great at cataloging. It's also awesome at editing as well. Be sure to start cataloging your photos from the get go. You'll be happy that you did.

Shoot in RAW and use lightroom. I heard there is a YouTube video about obtaining it for free

Is Lightroom only available through Adobe's Creative Cloud now?

You can still buy version 5 LINK.

Anything Adobe going forward will only be on CC.

I haven't really heard anything good about the Creative Cloud. Any of you guys use it? Thoughts?

I only use photoshop when I want to play with different filters. Otherwise I use LR. Like others have said, it's great for categorizing. I'm working through the last 5 years trying to reorganize.

Lightroom or Adobe Creative Cloud (which includes LR and PS).

Tried to make Aperture work, it's just too difficult unless you're devoted to Apple's photo management.

Doesn't matter, Apeture got the axe.

Yes, I use it. Works great, also includes a behance membership. Only complaint is it isn't free anymore.

if CS 6, or even 5, is owned, there isn't really a noticeable difference for the average user worth justifying the CC subscription yet. At least in my opinion.

I download all these programs for free anyway. Downloaded Lightroom last night. Is there any way to change the folder where Lightroom puts your uploaded photos (or any other Lightroom data) on to google drive? Or a external hardrive? For instance. My computer wont download music unless my external is plugged in.

Awesome. You're the reason the fricking price goes up for those of us that are honest.

Of course you aren't. You're a thief. Thieves have no remorse.

You cant in this business. But i can tell you that my actions do not affect the price of Lightroom. BUT if you prove to me otherwise, i will apologize to you.

Absolutely. However, if you put it on an external, unless it's a very fast connection, there may be noticeable latency.
