3rd brake light gasket on Chevy and GMC truck

My Chevy 09 has been having some odd electrical issues recently. Had a mechanic look at it - in short the gasket on the 3rd brake light errods prematurely and causes water to leak into the cab. Tech said its a common issue - just wanted to advise.
I was wondering why my carpet in the back seat area was sometimes wet -this is where a lot of the electronic wiring is located - under the carpet. Just a FYI.

Bead of Ultra Gray RTV is the best fix. Happens in a lot of vehicles with exposed 3rd lights like that. My Ranger did that when exposed to snow and ice up here which means it was probably leaking before and the cold weather just made it worse.

Why don't you stop the leak since you know the source

Had the same problem when I had my 2010 King Ranch. Ford did everything they could to not change out the seats, but after like 3 mths of bitching they did.

I might have dodged a bullet. Just changing out the gasket, pulling the rear seats and let everything air out. Might have to change out some electronic connections.
