OBAMA: Don't make it harder for the best and the brightest to come here"

quote:

"If we want to keep attracting the best and the brightest from beyond our shores, we're going to have to fix our immigration system, which is broken," Obama said after 25 service members from 15 countries collectively raised their right hands and pledged allegiance to the United States. "Pass common-sense immigration reform. We shouldn't be making it harder for the best and the brightest to come here, create jobs here, grow our economy here. We should make it easier."
The hot-button issue of immigration is earning renewed attention after the influx to the U.S. of tens of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America. Under U.S. law, they must be sent back across the border with Mexico to their home countries, which has upset immigration advocates who already take issue with Obama's strict enforcement of deportation policy. They want Obama to allow the children to stay; he says he must follow the law.

So the thousands of illiterate, destitute, disease ridden carriers of dangerous contagious diseases are now, 'the best and the brightest"

Need context. Is he referring to the EB5 visa program?

shite show dumpster fire,

if they were the best and brightest then they would use other means to enter the country, people immigrate here everyday

this is the death knell for this country, this is intentional subversion from the highest office in the land

Its just red meat to the uninformed voters. The best and brightest usually come on Visa's and legal ways....I'm very pro legal immigration, just not illegal immigration....

You are making a pretty big jump here in interpreting what he said and meant.

For ONCE we should ask for help. Everyone bleeds for these kids and hoW WE treat them. They crossed the entire country of Mexico. Does Mexico not bear some responsibility? And for all of those weeping for the couple bodies that they found, I can not imagine how many bodies are in Mexico from this mass walk. How many may have been killed by cartels for walking in the wrong area or not having $$$ to be extorted?

The best and brightest already have a pathway. I thought we needed these kids to come do the jobs Americans won't do?

I can't keep up.

I really can't see the logic of people defending the push for immigration and amnesty.

We already have a system in place to get the best and the brightest from outside the USA. If they can't use the system then they AREN'T the best and brightest.

We can't house our homeless. We can't feed our hungry. We are bankrupting our future, yet the liberal need to not only win elections but stay in power forever has clouded the judgment of almost every liberal on this board.

Article also says GOP has blocked reform but hasn't put forth any type of plan of their own.

Shocker. They are beyond useless.

Ftr, I fully support secure borders to keep people from just crossing and I think people that just cross now should be sent back. Not the ones that have been here for decades and established famlies though.

Also, I fully support our current visa programs which are great. They bring in frickloads of wealthy foreign investors that are essentially buying citizenship by creating jobs for US citizens. Also the programs that give highly skilled foreigners a path to citizenship. Those programs are winners.

People crossing right now though should be sent back. Sorry their home country situation sucks arse, but not our problem.

Hot Latin bitches are always welcome though.

What will be the future of these central American countries if we take 10s of thousands of their best and brightest? Seems like we are potentially robbing them of their greatest resource.

This!
The borders should be shut down.
Visas/work visas should be expanded to meet demand, across the board.
No gov financial assistance associated with visa recipients.

Give undocumented immigrants work visa amnesty as long as they apply. Those not applying are deported.

Shhhhhh! Don't interject logic into the conversation

By the way, I have always wondered that about India, since so many of them come over here and that's a lot more than just a sneak across, so we get a more energetic and brighter slice of them than average, probably by a large margin. Of course, the do have 1.5 billion people so they probably still have some smart ones stay.

The man is a fricking menace.

Duck him and his fat fricking wife to hell.
They are a plague upon our great nation and when they leave office shall be a historical dart of celebration in the annals of history.

Uh, oh.

Someone just found a flaw in the administration's argument.
