Looking for some feedback on the entry level semi-auto's that are available. Does anyone have any recommendations for any of these $600ish guns? Needs to shoot 3". Stoeger 3000/3500 etc. Anyone have a used one they would like to get rid of might have a few trades.

Thanks

Try to find a Beretta 3901. They are the budget version of the Beretta 390 and an awesome value in a semiautomatic shotgun. Retail is around $650, but finding them for less isn't that uncommon and if you look long enough you can find a used one for around $500.

Talked to the warranty/repair guy at cabela's when I bought a Browning Maxus. He said that the number one brand he gets back and has to send in is Remington. He said since about 2004 or so their quality control has been non existent.

I asked about Stoeger 3500 and he said that he got very few complaints on them and that the inertia system and internals are based on the Benelli patents and that the internals are the same. He advised against the 2000 series, but said the 3000 series is good. You may want to check out used guns as well.

I bought my 3.5" Maxus used and didn't pay much over your price limit.I saw a few Beretta a391 extrema 2s there for around $800, in max 4hd camp with case and 3 choke tubes. You can get a lot more gun used. A $600 auto is typically very entry level. If you bump up to $750/$800, you can get a higher end auto.

Good luck!

Look for a used Beretta like Coco said. I have been shooting the same AL390 for the past 15 years and havent had an ounce of trouble.

For a new option, look at the Beretta A300 Outlander.

I would find something used before I would buy a stoeger.

You're fine bud. I had a Stoeger and didn't like it. I bought a used Beretta. Have a buddy that is a duck hunter and he bought the A300 Outlander and likes it.

I was in same boat last year. Ended up buying the stoeger m3000. I shoot very well with it, and love the way it shoulders for me. I did have a problem ejecting shells right when I got the gun. Sent it back in and it was fixed at no charge. Never had a problem since with a few hundred shells through it.

The m3000 replaced the m2000, it's just some ergonomic upgrades and one feature I can't remember right now. They don't produce the 2000 that I know of. The 3500 is noticeably heavier and bulkier, so if you don't need 3 1/2", I wouldn't get it.

I'm happy with what I have now that everything's fixed, but having to send it back was a pain right in the middle of dove season. I think the a300 would be my first choice if I were starting from scratch. But I really don't have much experience with it to be honest.

I agree with this.

I have changed my opinion on used guns and you can find some good deals on slightly used guns. Not to mention, you know you'll be getting quality when you get a Beretta or Browning.

Stoeger is a great gun, especially for an entry level gun. Its not the gun that really matters, its the person using it. Why spend $$$$$ for a gun? And unless you are shooting geese, 3in mag isn't needed. Its called overkill and the gun manufacturers as well as the ammo companies love the idiots that buy the overkill products.

Well figured I would update this post. Went a whole different direction and bought a used beretta xtrema 2. I've ran about a case and couldn't be happier.
