M/TV Board's thoughts on True Detective?

I'm thinking about starting it this evening. Admittedly, I don't know very much about the show other than it's pretty popular. I don't watch very many shows these days but True Detective caught my attention. Seems like a very interesting story with a good setting. Solid cast as well. Is it worth the hype? Just trying to get a sense of what I might be in store for.

I agree...it reeks of conformity and laziness. It's like they wanna watch it but need some sort of conformation from autonomous internet strangers before they invest the time.

It's terrible. In fact, I pre-ordered the first season precisely so I could rewatch it to remind myself just how awful it is. I have rewatched the full season twice now and I can't get over just how bad it is.

My administration approves of this show. I liked it and avoided all discussion of the show until I had watched it.
