Satellite TV provider DirecTV issued a statement Thursday regarding its pursuit to have the SEC Network when it launches nationwide Aug. 14.

"We’re in the middle of productive discussions with Disney over ESPN’s new SEC Network and hope to be able to provide it as soon as we possibly can.

Cox Communications, with 6 million subscribers is the nation's third largest cable provider, and, is a part of Cox Enterprises, which also owns the Atlanta Journal-Consitution.

I called today to ask what I would have to pay to break my contract to switch to another service with SEC Network. It was gonna be about $200 for me. Anyway, since they don't have yet she gave me $15 off my bill for 6 months for inconvenience. So was a $90 savings for just making the call and suggesting it might switch.

I called as well. They immediately gave me $10 off for a yr. They gave me the same answer regarding SEC network. I believe Direct is sort of in a pickle right now. They are currently in the process of being acquired by AT&T, so they don't want to be shelling out money when the co. is going to be taken over by AT&T anyhow. They also don't want to be losing customers. That certainly doesn't look great for them come acquisition time.

That isn't hopeful. That says to me it's gonna be awhile. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I posted a similar question a couple weeks ago. Somebody said that they called Direct TV and tried to cancel, they gave him the entire NFL package for free.

So I called Tuesday and asked for the Cancelation department. They said it would be a $100 Cancelation fee, which I replied "Dish Network has a promotion right now that they will pay the cancelation fee." (I saw that on TV somewhere but cant say where.)

Anyway a short five phone call later I had a $25 a month discount for a year and the entire NFL package for this up coming year.

They bent over backwards to keep me. I think if I would have pressed the issue I could have gotten HBO and Showtime for free as well lol. Moral of the story, if you need or want anything from Direct TV call now and play the cancelation card.

My contact is up on Monday so Direct TV called me for an upgrade to the Genie package, I told them I was going to cancel, so I got the upgrade free, the I asked about the SEC network, and got the standard answer, and I said I'm going to Uverse, they gave me $20 off my bill for a yr, all premium channels for $8 for three months (I pay $48 normally) and the NFL package free for a year! I stayed and hopefully they get the channel. If not it will cost a couple hundred to buy out my contract

Same as me. I did this earlier this week. I saved a little money but I still don't have the SEC Network.

That quote from the paper does not look promising to me. They will get it "as soon as they can".

All the radio hosts seem to think it will happen, but it will be rift up to the wire but will happen. They also said expect issues early... It did take the nfl network a few years.

Called and got $10 off for a year, Showtime and HBO for 6 months and NFL Sunday Ticket. Didn't have to work them at all.

I spoke with a Customer Retention Rep last Wed. because I was leaving Direct TV and going to Cable. The Rep told me point blank Direct TV WILL have The SEC Network. He told me there was an agreement regarding the money to be paid and they were finalizing the rest of the contract. The guy sounded very knowledgeable about the subject so I believe him. He could be just full of it also
