Different situation because there wasn't a break between the 2 eras

They'd probably retire the more recent number. Especially if he wins a title with that number.

Except it's the exact same situation because the break changes nothing.

Psychologically it does though because the 23 era would be distinct from this new era. I couldn't tell you when Kobe changed his number

Kobe had 2 eras that separated his numbers too--Pre-rape and post-rape

The NBA needs to get their heads out of their arse and retire 23 league-wide to honor the true GOAT.

#8 is a rapist, #24 has a good work ethic.

When you think of the first era you think of Lebron James not #23. When you think of the second era you think of Lebron James not #6. So why in the hell would you retire two numbers? That would be beyond stupid. Whatever number is associated most with that player is the number that gets retired.

Now if two different teams retired his number that's a different story.

#8 was the über athletic young kid that helped Shaq lead the Lakers to 3 titles but then fell on hard times struggling to finally lead the team.

#24 was the young kid reborn into the older, wiser alpha male with the unstoppable turn around jumper that won 2 more titles on his way to becoming the greatest Laker of all time.
