Would you consider yourself a sports expert IRL?

I think the vast majority of posters here are used to being the go-to friend when it comes to sports. I think that is one of the reasons that people fight so much here. They aren't used to being questioned so much.

The MSB trains you for the real world though. I know so much more about stuff I don't care about thanks to the MSB.

The funny thing is with co-workers, I have to act like I didn't yet hear news or read something even though I knew about it like four hours earlier because I was on TD all day.

Been there.

People always wonder how I know everything. "Dude, teach me sports." I always tell them that they don't want this addiction.

omg this.

I actually alienated a really good friend of mine for a while when we lived together in college. He's a big sports fan too but didn't surf the net nearly as much, so practically everytime he would say "dude did you hear about..." I'd be like "oh yeah I saw that". Eventually I think it just annoyed him to the point that we stopped talking as much

I learned from it though. With some of my friends now, and pretty much 100% of the time when it's UGA related, when someone asks "did you see..." I just say "oh, really? Huh, didn't know that"

In every day life I am, but with my close buddies they're on par with me or more knowledgeable.

At work, with casual friends, etc., I'm likely the go-to.

That said I don't consider myself an expert. For Atlanta people, Chuck Oliver would be a sports expert. If not for opinions/predictions, definitely for depth of knowledge and scope of knowledge.

I've found that when overhearing people talk about sports that more often than not I just think "what a idiot" "have they ever watched ___ play" etc.

But then everyone I speak to feels the same, so, people probably think it when hearing my opinion.

Luckily they are wrong, and I am right

I know the feeling. Whenever someone wants to show me a video or something online there is a 99.99% chance I have seen it on TD but ill just watch again instead of always telling them "I have already seen that".

Not really. A lot of times people don't want to hear you go into a lot of detail about sports irl. They just don't care that much. They just want a general platitude.

ETA: I don't consider myself an expert.

True. I was at a party two days ago, and a guy asked me to explain the LeBron/Parsons/Bosh as well as I could. I was getting into lots of detail (and clearly above many people's heads). Then this dumb bitch girl kept screaming 4 years, 96 million when I was talking about Parsons (which is not even accurate on Bosh). I didn't handle that the best.

I don't think I'm an expert in any one sport but I think I know more than the average person about a bunch of different sports that I could hold my own in any conversation or hypothetical argument.

I'm an 85% expert - b/c a lot of sports are based in psychology ie. why people do things, how do they respond etc.

I have a good friend that knows everything sports so he's the de facto go-to brainiac when it comes to sports. Problem is, he is very biased so he'll skew his ideas to fit his own agenda.

not an expert but i am the "sports guy" to my friends. for example i was at a party a few weeks ago and some people were talking about Lebron, so they asked where i thought he would go. i proceeded to talk about cap space for cleveland and miami and other contracts and styles of play and shite like that. i started looking around and none of them knew what i was talking about. some people just want an answer not your reasoning i guess haha. but thats how people like us work

Far from an expert because that would require me actually understanding like more than 5% of the NBA's CBA, but I do consider myself pretty knowledgable when it comes to the league.

Memphis has tons fans of different SEC fans, so I would find myself getting in to a bunch of arguments growing up then quickly realizing I care way too much about this stuff.
