Because he's a bad arse. He's a great writer, speaker etc. sure it would be great if we could all be humble but when you're that successful you don't get there by being a pushover.

Sometimes Bourdain can be cocky but I like him overall. He's not pretentious...he goes from eating with people in bamboo huts to eating at 5 star restaurants and everything in between. And he'll be the first person to tell you that he prefers hole-in-the-wall foods.

As someone who spent the first half of my life in Jersey, and still has about a third of my family there, I feel confident in saying that's so not true.
