the more guns you have, the more guns you think you need.

To me, no. I got rid of a 9mm carry piece for a .45 carry piece. I also got rid of any .40 caliber as well. I now reload for every round that I shoot (45 ACP, 10 MM, & .38/357 Mag). To me it's about streamlining my calibers and reloading said calibers. If you've become comfortable and proficient with 45, why rock the boat?

I'll never be a .40 guy. I don't like things in the middle. I'm a black and white guy

If we are talking technical then no. You have two service calibers. The necessity is to practice until you are proficient with the ones you have as opposed to buying more guns.

My opinion is that the 9mm is a great personal defense round and if something happened to all of my guns a 9mm would be the first one replaced. It is inexpensive to practice with. It is very readily available again. It does perform as well as the other services calibers and like you mentioned the capacity is second only to the 5.7.

but is it good to have one higher capacity firearm around, and do they make dirt cheap plastic concealable .45s?

I'm not looking for the immediate future...I'm just really grooving with the .45 now, and I'm about to start with the .38.

I had a 9mm forever...I don't need to practice or do anything. I'm pretty damn awesome with them as far as shot placement.

I bought a M&P 9mm to keep in my vehicle.

If you know anything about me that should answer your question

It's got a good rep as a self defense weapon, it's not very expensive, and it's cheap/fun to shoot.

Good revolvers never fit into the not very expensive category

I am definitely buying another 5.7 (traded mine for a kimber ultra raptor ii) when they start making real ammo for it. The elite ammunition is impossible to get your hands on for a decent price and the factory and American eagle ammo is fricking junk.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I'm not going to trust my life to a piece of dirt cheap concealable plastic. That being said, Glock makes a carry .45 that is excellent but that's not my carry preference.

Then you don't need to conceal it.

I do need to conceal it. According the law, if I have a gun in my vehicle it needs to be concealed.

I'm not a Glock fan, but find a cop buddy to get you a cheap G17 for the truck. It will probably get stolen, and with that gun, you won't really care that much. Even though I dislike them, they are reliable and they do go boom 99.99% of the time.

I did a shooting class with two SWAT guys here, and they told me they get G17s for like $250. They go through between 1000 and 6000rds a month shooting them. When they break, they get rid of them and get a new one.

As for your next caliber to try, get a 10mm like a boss

exactly, I eventually want something in there, and I don't want to care too much when and if it's stolen

First I want to thank the OB, they have been a tremendous help to me over the last year...some great info on this board, and it is certainly the friendliest.

It has become my favorite board, and I rarely post here. I lurk the pants off of it though.

No expert here, but if you're carrying concealed, do you need another gun in the car at all times? My mind says no, but my scrotum says Id probably need at least three more in the car.

ETA Meaning you'll have one on you at all times already, in and out of the car.

Ahh, I missed that you were in Texas. Does the word concealed literally mean on your person or hidden out of plain view?

To be a true OB baller, you must have a gun in every caliber and have at least 10,000 rounds of each caliber in stock.
