I think the better question is did he have super-humor?

Superman's origins have varied over time, as has his powers. Anyway, I haven't read a ton of superman but in the newer stuff he is really smart. He is not a tactician and strategist like batman but he is much smarter than the average human.

but is that a result of being naturally gifted, enhanced intelligence due to the earth's yellow sun, or was he of average kryptonian intelligence and is a genius in comparison to humans?

Depends on the writer.

Grant Morrison made him smarter than Luthor.

As people said it varies. The genius angle just gets ridiculous, especially in DC as a whole. Everyone is a GD genius.

One thing MoS got right was not playing that up. Hopefully they continue down that path.

I thought batman was the only genius hero, but sometimes superman is played up as one and I wasn't sure if that was true to the character

When written that way, is he a cheat genius...being hyper intelligent due to yellow radiation or being hyper intelligent by virtue of being a more evolved species (mentally and physically0

or is it because he won the genetic lottery and is a genius

Superman was a genius, back when he was THE superhero in the DCU. As Seinfeld used to joke, all of Superman senses were heightened by exposure to our yellow sun, so Superman should've had Super-Sense-of-Humor as well.

Now he's just another superhero.

Flash (super fast thinking), Superman, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern (by proxy of the ring), Shazam (by proxy of the S in Shazam), Steel, Atom, the list goes on and on.

Poor Nightwing.

There are different levels and versions of genius. Superman and Flash had the gift of super-fast thinking, but they lacked the detective's intuition of a Batman.

You had the Einsteins of their day, Luthor (possibly another villain or two), the modern day Mr. Terrific, etc.

You had the super-technicians, Blue Beetle and the other heroes that "invent" their super weaponry.

And you had those with pure wisdom. Captain Marvel by way of Solomon, and Dick Grayson by way of his upbringing by Batman and Superman.

There was a Justice League arc in the 2000's that had the JLA presumed dead, and Batman's contingency plan kicked in, informing select heroes that they were now members of the new JLA. The pre-selected leader of that team was Dick Grayson, which to me was the obvious choice.

Hey, someone needs to tell him that while his thumbnail is harder than diamond, it isn't sterile.

That will be a lot of egg on his face if he saves her while being condescending only to end up killing her a week later.
