This got me to start Origins last night. I'm not far into it but what did people hate about 2 so much after Origins?

If you aren't Westlake, then you hated the game. It was just such a stark departure from everything that made origins good.

I read a review that said it was more linear and the companion AI sucked. Is that the issue?

I liked 2, but not as much as Origins. I don't understand the hate for 2. The game is very different from Origins but still fun to play.

You just answered it. This is the same for every series, different is bad for a lot of people.

It was quite linear, but that is acceptable because it has a story to tell. My issue is the complete shite the game took on fans, I mean they reused the same environments over and over again and then nullified story choices. It's playable, yeah, but try playing origins and then 2 and report back.

But honestly, I'm tired of pontificating about 2. I watched that gameplay video yesterday and I'm really excited to see what inquisition has in store. Open world rpgs are my jam

I read that too, sounds like a lack of content compared to origins. I love that i hear hate for EA over it but not Bioware. Maybe there is both but that is what I have heard.

This is the year of RPG's , partially just because I am rediscovering them and they are taking me over.

This will be the first Dragon Age I will get.

I saw something about joining servers in the menu for origins, is there a co-op mode or something?

The biggest problem that plagued DA2 was that the first game was so awesome. Reused environments, crappy writing, poor combat, enemies popping out of fricking nowhere, and the fact that the character that tore the world asunder at the end died in my playthrough of Awakening. Inquisition looks awesome though, and will probably force me to buy a PS4. And hopefully that bodes well for the next Mass Effect.

Im afraid this will be more like 2 than 1. More of an action game. If it doesnt have iso view and pause to command on pc then i probably wont play.

iso view
It does.

pause to command
It does, on all platforms.

Is it possible to set up auto pause at the start of combat for Origins? I liked how it did that in the Kotor games to let me get my strategy together.

I just downloaded DA2 (for $5) in order to get ready for Inquisition.
I've had Origins for awhile now, but haven't gotten too far into it yet. I understand Origins is loved by tons of people, but I am just not feeling it at this point - I feel like I don't have a clue how any of the core systems really work (leveling a character, skills/abilities, items, etc), so combat is just fricking mess of non-stop button mashing for me. Plus, after playing a shite-ton of Mass Effect in the last year, the silent protagonist kills me - especially since it's all third person and the camera pans to your character during conversations. Does Origins really pick up and kick as much arse as everyone says once you get the hang of it?

What Origins character do you have? I started a mage, which I read has a terrible beginning sequence.

Pretty sure I went warrior. Basically I got past the big initial battle and to the point in the story where it seems I can pick where to go/what to do next (trying to be spoiler free here). I am going to put more time into it tonight and see how it goes.
