Can some list in order the cups from most prestigious going down for both national teams and club teams? I'm really getting into this and this sport has me thoroughly intrigued. Thanks!

Internationally imo

1. World Cup

2. Olympics

3. Winning your confederation.

4. Confederations Cup.

I have to edit to explain I would rather win the Gold Cup than the Confederations Cup. It doesn't mean shite really. I would rather dominate CONCACAF than build up false hope before a World Cup.

There will be a few different opinions, but this will more or less be close enough. Also, you should title your thread what you what to ask.

National team:

1. World Cup
2/3. Euros, gold cup (our region), copa libadores (South America), African cup of nations, Asia cup (whatever it is called)
2/3. Confederations Cup - sort of a WC tune up
4. Olympics (mostly a U-23 team)

Some confederations care more about the Confederations Cup while others about their regional cup. I think Euro > Confederations, but I don't know how the rest view it.

European club (almost all big clubs):

Champions league
League title
FA Cup (England), copa del Rey (Spain), etc
Europa league (decent teams that do not qualify for Champions League)
Lesser domestic cups

Honest guess for MLS:

MLS Cup
Supporters Shield -regular season winner
CONCACAF champions league
Us open (going on now)

Considering the Olympics is a U-23 tournament, I'd put that at the bottom.

I would much rather win the Confed Cup than a gold medal in the Olympics.

Thanks fellas. I really enjoy this board. There's very little flaming and much more substance and you actually get a great response when asking a question

To each his own I guess. I would still rather have an Olympic gold since the summer games bring a lot of murica out.

Post WC will be a really good time to ask questions with no soccer games going on.

I don't mind your logic (although I disagree because winning the Gold Cup pretty much comes down to being better than Mexico), but I don't understand how you say this and have the Olympics as number 2. That really doesn't mean shite.

Honest guess for MLS:

Teams probably put a higher value on winning the CONCACAF CL because no MLS team has won it in the current format. It would be a huge step for the league as a whole. The only problem is that the knockout stages are in the middle of the Mexican season and during the preseason/early season of MLS.

Yeah I know the Gold cup will almost always be us or Mexico. I want to catch Mexico in all time victories. They are still ahead of us and US soccer use to be terrible so catching them in the all time series seems unlikely at least in the near future.

I do realize to be in the Confederations Cup we would need to win the Gold Cup unless we hosted the WC, won the WC, or replaced Mexico if they won the WC. I see it being more prestigious but I care if we win the Gold Cup. I don't give a damn about the Confederations Cup.

MLS Cup
CCL
US Open

I really wish the CONCACAF Champions League was first here but you're probably right.

It seems to me that MLS sides don't put up their best lineups for the CCL and will start their best players for an MLS match, though.

Wouldn't the CONCACAF Champions League be bigger than the MLS Cup since, it's officially over it and only been won by an MLS team twice, the last of which was 2000.

True, and the only way it would change would be for it to be open to all players, FIFA wouldn' allow it though.
