looks like our current carrier is not gonna cover pediatric dentistry so we are currently looking for a new Dental insurance carrier. Anyone?

I'm looking for the same thing. I just asked for an application from BCBSLA, but I'd like to hear if anyone else has any opinions.

I have Cigna and don't hardly pay for anything. Don't know details as far as children's coverage goes but I would start there.

Just had a $2500 crown and root canal done. Cost me $285

I would seriously consider not getting it at all.

Wish I had the receipt to show you. Maybe it's the coverage, maybe it's my employer or a combination of the two, I don't know that much about it, but I assure you that is the case.

I also pay around $3 to get a prescription filled at CVS. Free checkups and cleanings etc.

I have to go back for some fillings, anterior ones are free and posterior ones are $25

I have Starmount Always Care. It is based in Baton Rouge. Covers pediatric. I pay about $600 per year for a family of 4. It covers 2 cleanings a year per person and 80% up to $1500 per person for procedures.

I have BCBSLA supplemental dental. I pay $21 a month . I have a cap of $1000 services coverage and 2 cleanings per year. I think its 80% up to $2000 on major stuff though.

12 month waiting period on major
6 months on minor like fillings etc

Yea, that's what I just applied for. Unfortunately for me, it's going to be too late.

ETA: But, I learned my lesson. Hence, signing up for it now.

We previously had Delta Dental and they were great. Wife just switched jobs and I think we're with Assurant now. Not sure yet how good their insurance is yet

Unless you (or a family member) has a busted up grill or doesn't brush...just save the premium every year and pay cash for the services.

I bet you are in a DMO capitation plan. Did insurance company assign you a dentist to go to, or do you have a list of dentists.

This is the correct answer to the question.

I'm looking as well. For my daughter just cleanings alone cost between $200 and $300 out of pocket. We know she's going to need some work (teeth pulled, braces, etc.) I'm looking for something that will also cover some portion of ortho.

That sounds high. Is this for two cleanings a year or just once per year?

Two cleanings a year. It's a ped dentist. I just took her and this cleaning had the xrays and it was $275

Exactly. Save a little money for emergency needs and don't insure anything that isn't hugely expensive. You'll come out way ahead in the long run.

Wow, I just checked my fees for kids ($120 for xrays, exam, prophy and exam) and realize I am due for a fee adjustment. Did that $275 include a lubricant?
