Mingling with the people of Denver in the downtown LoDo area, Obama shakes hands with a dude wearing a horsehead and gets offered a hit of weed, twice.

I'm not religious so I didn't mean that in a religious way. Worshiping the president is no different than worshiping some Hollywood actor. It's a cult of celebrity.
Respecting the office has nothing to do with it. So I have to show my respect for the office by acting all giddy like some teeny bopper? I'll pass. Humanity needs to quit engaging in cults of personalities. But I guess it's in our nature.

I think it is interesting that the media was obsessed with reporting on W's alcohol and drug use; but there has been practically nothing on Obama's history.

Correct if I'm wrong, but I think I recently (last week or two) heard that the DEA has asked the USDA to drop it, so both agencies can begin to eliminate roadblocks to decriminalizing and/or legalizing it.

It is pretty common knowledge that Obama smokes cigs. W was a bigger story bc republicans usually love the drug war and he was suspected of using cocaine and having a DUI.

I guess nothing. It's just not for me. Not trying to be "too cool". I just prefer to not be THAT guy that interrupts a famous athlete or a celebrity while they are having dinner to ask for a lame autograph. Famous people don't really excite me too much.

I don't give a crap about "celebrities" at all. Have walked away from photo ops with them in the past but getting a photo with a sitting or past president is cool if only out of respect to the office. I don't care if you agree with his politics or not, capturing the moment is something in your life that is nice to be able to recall. Of course, this assumes you had a moment to actually speak to them and say something intelligent. I don't care for fake grip and grin shots.
That being said, Al Gore was such an arse that I walked away from a photo with him when he was VP. His obvious disdain for everyone in the room was so apparent but then he would throw up this huge fake smile right as the camera went off. It turned my stomach.
