Oh what elections do to liberals!

quote:

Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.), who leads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” program, told USA Today that if she were advising Obama, “I’d advise him to go to the border.”
“I have to tell you, I'm much more of a hands-on person,” Edwards said. “So, for me, visiting the border would make sense in terms of my ability to make decisions. People do things differently.”

They must not have gotten the memo that Obama has no concept of leadership.

.....if he goes ...then he gives legitimacy to a crisis of his own making.

...and you know this dumb arse will NEVER take responsibility for something if it goes wrong.....it's always some one else's fault.

barry is between a rock and a hard place on this one. There simply isn't a great presidential photo op to be had from a visit.

Staged reflective poses can only carry you so far.

He can't vote "Present" if he actually goes down there.

The only thing he's done so far is try and bilk the taxpayers out of $3.7 Billion just to process these people which begs the question that if it will cost $4 Billion just to process these people, how much is it going to cost to actually take care of them?

Given the statistics showing the number of Central American immigrants on various public assistance programs, I'm sure it's going to be several times that $4 billion.

Not to mention that $615 million he snuck in the bill to fight wildfires. WTF does that have to do with what's going on? Pure political blackmail is what. In the states of high fire areas that are represented by Reps, they are being blackmailed so if they vote NO on this bill then it makes it look they are also voting against more money for their states concerning wild fires. What Obama did with this add-on is not even sneaky, it's plain as your nose what he is doing.

Has he even addressed the American people on this issue? One would think that with such a "humanitarian" crisis on the border, the leader of the nation would brief the American people on the plan to tackle such a crisis.

Disagree completely. If he went it would placate the MSM and his followers.

"Look how concerned he is about the crisis! Why are those Republicans so evil? Why won't they work with him on resolving this?"

Great optics for President Obama. Just do not do it with Governor Perry (undermines the meme that Republicans are obstructionists).

Winning!

You believe he can get away with a visit without providing any kind of resolution to the problem?

If its about placating his base then fine but the dems who are seeking reelection in November want/need more from barry and they won't get that from a staged photo.

My friend, you fail to understand the Progressive mindset.

It is more important to have the right "intentions" than any degree of measurable results. You can have horrible outcomes, as long as your intentions were considered noble and good then all is well.

That is why they win the battle of narratives all of the time.

And yes, based upon the six years of his presidency, I absolutely believe he could do this and placate his targeted audience. He has done it time and again.

I agree with you there. The media would frame the visit as a Mother Teresa moment for barry and his base would lap it up. I was looking at it from a broader perspective. If he truly seeks immigration reform this chaotic scene does not play well for him. I would avoid it at all cost.

True. Thankfully true.

Vehemently disagree - he could single handedly catapult the Latino voting block to the Dems.

"Obama visits processing facility while making every promise they will be housed, fed and have access to better healthcare than tax paying citizens"
"Obama reverses course - will allow all migrant chi'rens to stay in the US pending outcome of court hearing"....oh wait, that is already being done.

I see this as a major flashpoint with the Dem voting block.

You already have a fawning (less so now) or (at worst) neutral press. Highlight what you are doing to alleviate the crisis (pictures of you meeting with high level federal officials - Republican governors would be reluctant to meet with you in a photo op). Use the themes idlewatcher has provided you.

Winning.

Perhaps but not unless he gives the assurances you provided. I'm talking about a posed photo op and nothing more coming out of the visit. You're talking about him making policy and that was never part of my initial assessment. promise any group the world and you're likely to make some political hay with that group. Just showing up is not going to deliver anything to his party.
