Picking up my Jackson Cuda 12 from Pack N Paddle Friday! Trying to make sure I get a paddle worthy of such a nice kayak. I see Werner and Bending Branches, but I also see their price tags.I did stop in to Academy and looked at the No-Limit Redfish paddle there for $120 and it seems like a good paddle but I can't find any reviews for it other than one vague review on their website.

What are you guys paddling? If you hate your current paddle what do you have your eye on?

I have the Bending Branches scout ($99). It's fine.

If you are spending $120 on the No-limit, just get the Werner Tybee for $129(10% off if a member of LKFC) from Pack & Paddle. Great paddle.

I've got two Werners and like them a lot. Never tried any of the other high end ones though. Bought them off the internet for less than their MSRP though.

I have a Cannon Wave Slider coming in today

I'm anxious to try it out. It adjusts from 250 cm to 270 cm. Perfect for when I go from low seat to high seat.

I have the Adventure Technologies Exodus and I love it.

It only weighs 30 oz and is adjustable to around 250cm IIRC.

Used to have a Werner Skagit and loved it...

Until I needed a longer one and picked up a Bending Branches Angler Pro.

Whereas the Werner still had some flex, the Angler Pro has none- resulting in better propulsion through the water. It is also super light weight.

Since you're scoffing at the price of the entry level BB's and Werner's, I doubt you will look twice at the Angler Pro, but between a No-limit paddle from Academy and a Werner from Pack and Paddle for the same price, I'd go with the Werner every single time.

Enjoy the cuda!

I was talking about the $350-$400+ paddles from them. I'm just trying to avoid making the rookies mistakes. I'll go to Massey's today and check out a few of the ones mentioned in here as well. Thanks guys!

I splurged and got a Werner.

It's alright, but probably not worth the extra money.

I would have trouble with a Hobie in my regular kayak fishing spot. I would love one when I chase trout though.

my SIL just got a good deal on a used Hobie Pro Angler...pretty sweet with the mirage drive but he has to use a paddle in a lot of the marsh ponds he fishes...

Oh, I know the prices of paddles can get extremely high. The Angler Pro that I currently have retails for $300- a price I would never pay for a paddle. (I say that, but then I also at one time told myself I would never pay that much for a Hobie PA, and well. . .)

I bought my paddle for nearly half off- a price that I could justify a little easier.

Just stay away from the aluminum shaft paddles- in my experience they are heavy, fit loosely together and can get bent easily.
Carbonfiber/fiberglass paddle is worth the extra cost. Also look at Aquabound- I think Massey's will have some.

I fish a lot of shallow water. I will flutter the hell out of those pedals. I never pick up the paddle unless I need to reverse, and usually I pick up the Park N Pole then.

Short stroking the pedals so the fins don't drop all the way down. You have to do that when you're in water that is too shallow for the fins to make their full motion.
